I E.T. bracket raced for years with an auto and no computer, I found it was one of the hardest things to do consistently and win.
You're statement may have some truth when applied to those that go out and just RUN their cars for Heads-up/grudge/bragging rights but the days of Grumpy Jenkins banging gears consistently and competitively at the strip have been long gone for many years.
Oh and by the way every serious drag racer I every knew ran an auto.
You must know some of the best, serious drag racers:clap2:

If we want to talk about real racing and track racing...I don't remember Nascar allowing automatic transmissions in their sport? There's a big reason why to that.

Auto cars are faster in the 1/4 mile or in a line, that's not a sure thing on a track.

"Don't hate the game because I'm not set to play it" Everyone in the world can drive an auto, how many people can say they can drive a manual? More so, how many can drive one effectively with all the techniques that it requires?

Most car enthusiasts and people on this forum have a manual...it's not surprising why.

If I wanted to just press the gas pedal and race...I would've gotten an auto. I prefer a real challenge.

have fun just using your right foot and playing with your paddles:thumbsup:
Nascar Also doesn't allow Fuel injection or independent Rear Suspension. Those cars have nearly nothing to do with a modern car on the road so as to put driver skill ahead of big money and to keep speeds and costs down.

BlueBeastSRT is right, Drag racing is about the machine even more than the man. A good Driver in a FRS/BRZ will destroy lots of exotic machinery on the Nurburgring, that same Car and Driver will get Annihilated on the Dragstrip by anyone who is not a complete moron in a better set up car.

I prefer to row my own gears too, it's more fun, which is why my car is a manual, but if I were racing I'd go Auto, Because winning is more fun than rowing your own and loosing any day.

Once you get to the insane power levels of a modern Drag Car, that's where the skill level of the drivers is critical. I've seen too many wrecks at the dragstrip to think that it's just as simple as mashing the gas pedal when the light goes green.

You haven't been paying attention to NASCAR lately, they started using Fuel Injection in Sprint Cup along with E15 gas last year.

Can't imagine them ever switching to IRS, no advantage and the teams would all revolt.

You're right, been in Germany since 01 lol. They are still using 4 speeds right?

I agree the teams would all revolt due to IRS but Disagree that there would be no benefit, the Dynamic camber gain in a turn would be a huge traction advantage (Banked turns diminish that advantage I grant you) But with NASCAR actively trying to slow cars down, (Formula 1 is too) making the cars faster in turns is something they don't want.

If you really want to see how skilled someone is at driving, take them to a circuit that has turns. Not a straight line.

The level of misinformation in here is laughable. To the OP, try shopping around. I don't know if money is an issue or not. There seems to be plenty of these transmissions on the market from old F-150's. Buy one, get it rebuilt and go from there. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/6r80-transmission

You're almost a psychic, I did. A older coworker I knew years back was a driver of some of the early front engine top fuel dragsters at the time in early sixties.

If you feel satisfied letting a computer do the winning for you...then bravo!!

No fun when you can't really determine who's the better driver.
I couldn't care less about saying I had 13.2% more driver skill than the other driver. I care about my car being fast, and in front of the other one winning that paper. :D Yes... 6R80 ftw.

See.. there is the problem... you are using NASCAR as an example of FAST cars.... Thats like saying a turd is shiny. Sigh... Check out the really fast cars... like you know... Formula 1 cars... :ninja: With no clutch.

Oh boy. Not enough measuring tape to go around fellas. You all have enormous dongs, we get it.

To the OP, any decent Mustang shop should be able to do this for you. It'll cost but not as much as swapping cars. It's a little more complicated than pulling one out and putting the other in - but it can be done with relatively little heartache. Not sure what changes need to be done to your PCM - you may need to swap that out as well.

Many S197 owners did the swap. May take some time but I'm sure you can find someone to trade at some point.
