Thanks for sharing. Sure hope this is the case and they are aware and working on it. They are probably copying DroidJunky's design as we speak. They should send him a check when this is all over someday.
They will be shipping all of us cardboard, duct tape and shop vac hose! [emoji1]

I thought you made it out of molded plastic and tubing, very professional. ;)

At this point I'd take the cardboard and duct tape. :frusty:

Mine is where I feel heat on my back and cool on the bottom. I turned on both A/C seats. Something I noticed...within minutes the back of the seat was warm. I did the Ole reach around and stuck my hand into the back of the seat pockets, and wow, it's really hot in there. If they don't find a fix, you can always use them to keep the food warm till you get home.

The back side of the seat back should feel a little warm (but not real hot) because the unit is rejecting waste heat inside the the back of the seat. But it should also be sending cool air out the front surface of the seat back, just like the cushion unit sends cool air out the seat cushion surface.

If the back side of the seat just inside the top of the map pocket feels really hot, then the unit is really over heating and in that case is probably sending hot air out the front surface of the seat back. Some people have this condition, where others just don't have any cooling coming out the front of the seat back.

Maybe the fix will be a vent that blows hot air directly out of the seat back when cooling is turned on. They could call it the 'mother-in-law' vent.

That is exactly what it needs as well as a tube that feeds cabin air like the one home-engineered in this thread. Ford probably thought any back seat passengers would have complaints with hot air blowing on them. Of course how many people actually have anyone sit in the back seat for any period of time? I'd be willing to bet less than 5% of Mustangs ever have anyone sitting in the back seat. I can't even remember the last time I saw ANY Mustang with someone sitting in the back seat. I think I remember a time about 5 years ago I saw one, but that is it. Screw the back seat, vent the hot air back there, not into the seat itself.

Redesign it Ford.

Just having a tube to intake cabin air from below the seat would probably be adequate as Droid_Junky has shown. It would make it less complicated than having both a cold and hot vent.

While I was at the dealership for service one of the things that I had them check the cooled seats. The service advisor ran them for a while and noticed that the seat bottoms were nice and cool but the seat backs got hotter, especially where the unit is located. I'm waiting for the parts to come in for the undercarriage heat recall and he also ordered a new parking brake because when it's disengaged it's very loose but it does work, so he was also notifying Ford about the seat backs getting hot instead of cold. He's supposed to call me when the parts arrive for the recall and parking brake, says he will also follow up on the seat back issue. I will post back when I hear back.

I'm also interest in this problem even if I haven't received yet my car, because I _HATE_ leather seats (too hot in summer - too cold in winter) but was convinced to have them by the cooling feature.

To whom the dealer says that the back seats are not intended to cool, you can show this image:

It is taken from the italian brochure, but I imagine you can find in english one as well.
"If it's not intended to cool, what are these arrows coming out from the seat?"

I posted in this thread earlier, Ford does know about this issue and acknowledged to me that it is not designed efficiently and they are working on this.

I contacted Ford Customer Service, not the dealer. They registered the complaint and asked me to take it to the dealer for them to verify everything was connected and working, it was. The dealer reported it was working but the seat back was not cooling efficiently.

Ford Customer Service said there are 2 problems. The seat backs heating when cooling turned on and just not cooling efficiently. He said at this point all I can do is wait for Ford to issue a TSB. It might be 2 different TSBs.

I don't know a good sight to find the TSBs.

By the way, it's still a good idea to take the car to the dealer to register the complaint.

Actually it is the same company, they did a name change from Amerigon to Gentherm in 2012. This brings to question though if the old units were better designed / built.
10:1 the new units are cheaper.

Thanks, Droid Junkie, for awesome research on this thread. Ford clearly owes you bonus design fees.

I guess, like the squeaking brakes, I'll be forced to take my time and let my dealer determine that yes, indeed, my seatbacks don't cool very well. Surprising.

Yes I have read all the thread and would like to thank you and other users that have sorted out this issue and made Ford be aware of that.
I just want to post that image to let guys have fun with dealers not knowing what they are selling :D

I believe if you sign up at owner.ford.com you'll automatically be notified. I seem to recall something about that. Going to hit up the dealer with mine later this week since I got some first hand confirmation on what GT Pony patiently :frusty: drilled into my head a while back.
