I'm in the market for a radar detector for the first time but there are so many to choose from. The Passport 9500ix looks good, but I'm hearing good things about the Valentine V1. Which do you swear on?

Since having an Escort 8500 go haywire w/ random alarms and Escort refusing to warranty it, I have avoided their products since.

I've been using the Beltronics Pro 300 for the last few years and it's saved me plenty of tickets! Really good range. I only use mine when on highway.

Passport Escort Max Version 1

Built in GPS
Smart filter turns off X bands warnings, next time you in the same area saved to database
Upgradable data base with red-light camera and speed camera info
Displays your seed on the lcd screen
Different modes like high way, auto and etc

I have used other radar detectors, but so far the Escort Passport Max is best radar detector I have ever owned.

I have the Escort 9500ix for almost 5 years now and it works flawlessly.

It's the radar detector called "obeying the speed limit."

Valentine 1 for me. Have had one since 6 years ago, and it's probably saved me 100 tickets since. It's got great range, super consistent, and you can program out false alarms.

V1 for me as well. I've had mine for over 15 years. Love the arrows. Just like true radar, I like to know what's around me 360 degrees. I think the Escort 9500ix has a slightly better range, but it's also slightly more expensive.

ZERO - I do a lot of road trips each year. 3 or 4 600+ milers and 1 2,500 miler every year (various cars).

I am usually one of the fastest cars, but there is always a rabbit you can follow. Then avoid these simple rules and you should be pretty good.

#1 - Never speed over a blind hill if you can't see a car in front of you.
#2 - Never speed around a blind curve if you can't see a car in front of you.
#3 - Check every overpass and entrance ramp as you approach.
#4 - Watch for brake lights, brake lights, brake lights. Even people going the speed limit will brake check if the see a cop. You see em, slow down.

#5 is the most important. STAY OUT OF THE LEFT LANE. Cops have their radar trained on the left lane because thats where the idiots hang out. Keep right, except to pass. Being in the center or right lane can give you a fraction of a second to try and scrub of speed if surprised by a cop. Especially since lazer is so dependent on line of sight.

Too bad its not like Fast and Furious Tokyo drift where you can just punch it past the cops and they don't bother because you're just too fast

After all the cops switched to laser in the area, I gave up on detectors. Just drive within reasonable range of the speed limit and don't stand out.

The problem with this for me is that number 3 there. 90% of the places I drive, you'll never have a stretch where there's an overpass more than a couple of hundred yards away; the next overpass is always within sight of the last one. So you can never quite be sure who might be hiding for you.

You & me both, had mine since 2002 & sent it in to V1 for a couple of updates thru the years. And it's never hard wired either. And I also go by jimmy two times recommendations which is what i have always done (somewhat). But never really though much of the far left lane until now.
