Changed the oil today (after 3 hours because I overthink everything), only 2k miles but it's been 17 months so I figured what the heck.

Used a true 2087 filter and motorcraft 5w50. I had AMSOIL in there this last go around (oil and filter) and it seems to have done fine, but the price for the OEM stuff I found was actually the same price. So, tie went to OEM. I also got a new OEM drain plug. All buttoned up well.

Checked the catch can too (PITA with my Fathouse performance tank - I will have to make a separate post about that 🙄)

I will say - the engine seemed slightly quieter and the cold-start oil pressure seemed slightly higher per the gauge at least.

Next thing - sway bar links and fixing paint chips

Do you consider the drain plug a wear item because it's plastic with a rubber O ring? Was is seeping?

I am somewhat considering it a wear item. Really, at my last oil change, I noticed it had some very slight "play" when fully seated. I wasn't clear if that was normal, so when I saw a replacement was very cheap I decided to just replace it at the next change. The new one has the same very slight "play" so it seems unnecessary, but I've also seen some people mention replacing it every 4-5 oil changes. I'll probably fall into that camp.

I've seen people talk about other aftermarket plugs but having issues, so I stayed OEM.

But I have noticed no signs of seeping.

I use the UPR drain plug. It does have a tendency for it to come completely out when turning the valve, but if you hold it from turning then the valve will open. 2 changes on the drain plug. No issue with it leaking. It uses double O rings and a plug cap. It's nice that can control the flow. No big mess of oil shooting out like the OEM plastic plug.

I generally have the dealer (I have 2 good dealers I trust, I know dealership can be a bad word around here) change mine out every 2-3 oil changes. Not so much because the plug is plastic, more so to keep the O rings fresh. The plug is cheap enough to just change the whole thing out rather than just replace the O rings. I’m due for a new one with my upcoming oil change in another month or so. I ask to see the used plug after they change it out, the plastic has always been in good shape. O rings have usually been in good shape too but I’d rather have new ones in there every few oil changes

If anything, the o-ring could be argued a consumable. The drain plug, absolutely not. Currently rocking 46,000 miles/9 oil changes on the original plug & o-ring. No seeping, nada. And I sleep like a baby. And before someone throws out the term “cheap insurance”, dumbest term ever because people usually use that when there’s no empherical support for their decisions. 3K mile oil changes for example.

Have a little bit over a hour drive from north GA to Hartsfield so I’ve been using it as my airport car for work trips! Been traveling lately and it makes an otherwise boring work trip - fun. Something to look forward to upon my return. Put 6000 miles on it since purchasing in Jan and loved every one!

Gull wing door question: do you need to park closer or further to avoid door dings?

Airports parking lots are notorious car theft locations. 🫠

I I don't know if i'd be brave enough to leave mine in an airport parking lot... Most underground parking garages are door ding city...
see you found a spot with a blank on your drivers side. which helps...

Yeah I wasn't able to find the o-ring alone, but maybe I just didn't search hard enough. Now that I see the new plastic plug fits the same, I'm far less concerned. $10 well spent for peace of mind.

It's funny you mention the 3k oil changes though, I will always be in that camp too 🤣 if anything it gives me something to do.

Idle hands . . .
