Dark Horse SC, who's adding one, who's replacing with one, what will it do to GT500 values?

The rear lower bumper valance looks pretty awkward from that angle. I hadn’t noticed it that pronounced till that pic.

I can understand the attempt if that was the intent, but it's a big swing and a miss to me.

It's terrible. Especially the lower black plastic bits and diffuser. Could it have been more blocky? What are they hiding in there? And the exhaust tips look like something GM would do on a Suburban.

The GT500 was a slam dunk from any angle.

It's definitely big. I've not seen one in person yet, but look at the GTD rear bumper. That whole section is part of airflow management behind the car. I'm sure most of us are aware, but making that longer and curving up increases DF instead of allowing that turbulent air go right up the bumper. The SC got the same treatment, but on a much smaller car than the GTD, and makes it look bigger.

I am pulling this out of my butt, but logically it makes sense to me.

Interesting point regarding the GTD. Here’s the two rear ends, sorry the GTD angle isn’t the same, that’s the only rear photo I took at the dealership

The hips on that GTD.....😍
Pictures don’t do justice as to how wide the car is. It’s quite stunning to see in person. The owner is the guy that owns the family of dealerships that the car is sitting at. His Carbon Edition GT is in the front window and is for sale if you have a spare $1.8 million

I didn't like the DHSC until I saw Raiti's video at the Chicago Auto Show. That blue color in the lighting of the show really brings out the curves and styling. Very nice.

I do believe that the fenders are wider on the DarkHorse SC than the S550 GT500. Not positive on that, but I think that is what I read.

Raiti is here in Chicago for the Auto Show and did a video on the DHSC

Finally got around to watching this.

glad he dives into the teal package reasoning, but also causes me to double down on the foolishness of the dark horse name for two separate mustangs.

we’ve always had, GT and cobra, or boss and gt500 or mach 1 and gt500. Not boss and “boss sc“ or Mach 1 and “better Mach 1” etc.

weve All see the dash graphics evidence that Ford was calling this car the new “Boss.” And that would have been brilliant. But after watching that video, the DHSC teal package is there to try to connect the car to the 69 Boss 429 Which had a teal color package.

but such a thing on a car not named “Boss” makes no sense.

it is what it is. Missed opportunity. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long to get actual Mustang people who get the Mustang back on the board at Ford.

on the brighter side, the car looks tolerable when viewed from a very low angle. And it looks good from the side. It’s just the front grilles and diffuser that kinda cheap it out.

no, it’s not what we expected for a GT500 level car 6 years later. But it’s ok so long as they keep the cost down as much as possible.

could be. Same tire widths though.

might be indicative of power level. The GTD has 345s out back at 815 hp while the sc has the 2020 gt500s 315s at 760 hp. Guessing 790 hp, give or take 10 hp or so.

But they won't.

When I was looking hard at '22 GT500s in late '21, "my" car (Eruption Green base, no stripes, black roof, CF dash) had a list of $78K and change; of course, that changed a bit once Ford started raising the price on a regular basis at the time. But only a bit over four years later, a regular Dark Horse HP is just a tick under $80K.

These ugly bastards are gonna be expensive....

1. Ford has saved tons of money by reusing the s550 for this generation

2. they’re saving money again on this car by reusing the gt500 drivetrain.

3. Then they’re saving money yet again by not collaborating with Shelby and not paying licensing fees.

so this is by all means the DISCOUNT GT500 replacement.

it really should be priced accordingly.

I like to disassemble things.
To be fair, costs have gone up across the board, substantially since '22. I can't speak to the margins Ford has to work with but this car will absolutely reflect just that.

I only buy that to a degree.

and with the s650 being basically the old car massaged enough to keep selling, there’s no excuse for the cars to cost what they do. And with the SC ESPECIALLY for the reasons stated above. They’ve saved money hand over fist on this car. Time for Ford to get real and get back to bang for the buck. This isn’t a new gt500 and doesn’t have any licensing fees tacked on. Most of the R&D on this was paid for a loooong time ago.
