I have and it sucked honestly. I started with lund 7 years ago on a na e85 tune. Then retuned with turbos and then for additional tuning. Tried to switch a year ago to another big name tuner because lund wouldn't tune the set up I wanted to run and the other tuner never got my car running half as good as it did with lund, even on the base pump gas tune. Lund had it set with almost no revisions and I spent months of back and forth with the other guy even doing Saturday sessions to focus and my tune alone. No luck.
What was/is your turbo setup and who did you settle on for the tune since Lund wouldn’t tune it? What didn’t Lund like about your setup thst made them decline to tune it.

I'm sure like most tuners or companies they probably have more satisfied customers then un satisfied. But it's sorta like reviews on on Google or Amazon. Like do I want to eat at the Taco place that got rated 3 Stars, or 5 stars. Both technically have more happy than un happy customers. But why risk the diarrhea or botulism if you don't have too šŸ˜‚
"Burn you twice" tacos!

I stuck with my lund tune after everything. I was just trying to use e30 so I could up the boost a little more. Decided to just stay at 12lbs. Pump 91 plus 14ish Oz of boostane per tank and meth.

Not gonna say. He's done plenty of s550s with great success and was willing to keep trying to get mine right but just couldn't do it anymore. I was constantly loading new revisions and trying to get away from work to send a log. If drivability was OK it wouldn't have been a big deal but it drove like garbage half the time bucking and surging to the point I didn't want to hurt the engine so id have to drive enough to get some ethanol out of the system and gas back up to switch back to my 91 tune. Then gas up again to get my e30 mix and reflash to try again on a new revision. Car would seem fine at first usually so it would seem like we finally got it right and then it would go crazy. Car felt like Dr jeckel and Mr hyde.

Haha! Man, you just made me think about the rap duo from the early 80s.

I know that.

But we're talking about max performance 1/4 mile run

Because people will say things like 'xxxx tuner has the record'

And I'm saying the tuner doesn't have that much to do with 'the record'

But driveability etc as you said can be different. And having 'the record' doesn't gaurantee you have great driveability etc. Two different things.
I get where you’re coming from but if the tuner doesn’t have much influence on the end result than why does Lund have more cars running 6 and 7 sec 1/4 mile than anyone else. I’d love to be proven wrong so I’m all ears lol. Doesn’t make a difference to me with my ā€œslowā€ high 9 sec low 10 sec car.
Drivability is all preference based. One might think a car drives great while another customer might hate it.

Really doubt it. If you gave 5 (good) tuners the same car they're going to all go within about 1% of each other. You're going to end up with basically the same thing unless one tuner wants to risk another half a degree of timing or something. The days of switching tunes and gaining 50hp are long gone unless someone really fucks up.

You're really only going to see a difference if it's something that tuner specializes in like a 7/8-second 6R80 drag car like Lund does.

"The record" comes from the (owner/builder who knows what they are doing) fine-tuning and dialing the car and tune into the tiniest detail which you're not getting for the basic $800 tooner package on the website.
I completely agree with you. When you have the same car/mods and 5 different tuners, the driver is way more important than the tuner.

A lot of people now days seem to think everything is about the tune and neglect the fact that a driver, or a good driver, is more valuable than a tune.

These cars have been out for years and everyone has seen each other's calibrations over and over. There is no secret. The only way to gain power is through VCT and timing and they work hand in hand. Other than that the most common problems people run into that cause a complaint on the tuner come from weird random issues or customer service.

The transmission side is the same way. A lot of people will switch tuners and say "man this thing shifts so much better". I'm willing to bet it's all in their head and they happened to drive it on a day when the clunky 10R80 was behaving, 2 months later it's back to being erratic.

There's members on this forum that have more interesting breakthroughs or "secrets" than main stream tuners.

Majority of the people who buy a tune, boosted or N/A don't realize there is only a handful of changes that are needed in the calibration. You would be surprised on how similar and damn near identical a calibration is for the same car that has a Whipple or a procharger.
And N/A tunes are all the same. Literally. You increase timing from the base 87 octane timing and that's about it. Everything else is dialed in. All the power is from timing. Nobody has a "secret sauce" N/A tune. N/A tunes are a stock Ford calibration with added timing... Whoopty do.

I would assume, if you take your people that have the means etc to build a 6-7 second car, who are they going to pick to tune it?

And does Lund really have the most? There are a lot of 7 second Mustangs out there.

it seems like a lot of shops have their preferred tuner, tuners (like Lund) have their own cars they run...some people tune their own.

This is purely off what I see online, no hard data. I’m at a point that I rather have multiple 700whp cars than one all out built 1300-1500whp car. That’s why I got a X3M and M2 (700whp with bolt ons and tune) alongside the Mustang. The harsh reality is, once we modify our cars, reliability goes down, no matter how careful you are.

Regarding tuners, unless you’re chasing every tenth, I don’t think it’s worth jumping from tuner to tuner unless the customer support is garbage.

Man, you and I have got to be only a few years apart. Either that or you have an older sibling or parent(s) that brought you up right, šŸ˜†.
