Why does ford overwhelmingly feel the need to dilute their catalogue of historical names? Did anyone tell them it's okay to come up with something new?

Bronco Sport 🤢
Mach E 🤮
Mach 4 💩

4 door mustang!?. Ford did this in 58 when they ruined the T bird by turning it into a 4 seater. I dont have a problem with more door performance cars its just Call it something else other than mustang.

Hello; A four door sedan with a Coyote V8 and hopefully a manual available could be sweet. My understanding is the Mustang platform is also used for other current vehicles. That, to me, should mean the platform is already big enough to hold a four door sedan. Not a flaw to be sure but to me the current Mustang is a rather large car.
Driving home yesterday I was passed by a Fox body Mustang with Tennessee State Police sign on the side and the older cruiser colors. We have had a few nice weather days and lots of the classic cars are on the road. My point being I noted how compact that body looked.

GM made a sedan from the Holden platform around 2017. I drove examples and found them decent.

I would hope the four-door Mach 4 would not be called a Mustang. Ford has lots of mothballed names to use.

I think a 4 door with the Mustang drivetrain could be a lot of fun.

It will never be a true Mustang no matter how hard Ford tries to force it on the market place.

When someone refers to a Mustang people's first thought will always be a long nose, two door, rear wheel drive sports car. The minds eye won't see the WannB or a 4 door car. They will see some version of the iconic Mustang we all love.

The concept of a 4 door performance car is great. Trying to piggyback off the Mustang name is, and always will be LAME.

It looks like a Mustang and a Bronco had a baby. Um, It’s a “no” for me dog. I’m just not feeling it.

Sure, but why does it have to be given a name that dilutes an existing brand/trim? Just call it something else.

The Bronco Sport is likely a decent enough daily driver, but why associate it with this?

The Mach E is likely a decent enough "sporty" EV, but why associate it with this?

Etc, etc, etc... I get some marketing "focus group" likely said it was a good idea, and who knows, maybe it was, but do you think the name really made that big of a difference for the owner?

It would be nice if it was not trying water down the Mustang name, but if they gave us a nice car, honestly I probably wouldn’t really care. I just want a 4 door v8 from them, lol.

Fair enough, but I'd still rather they just came up with a new name instead of playing Hollywood and just giving us a "spinoff" Mustang.
