Before I go full send and rip the entire braking system apart, again, was hoping someone could bless me with their wisdom in this.

Recently installed GT350R calipers (new), reused factory pads and rotors, installed new TTY bolts on all 4 corners. However, the front left outboard rotor surface is showing signs of insufficient contact. Car seems to brake ok, but hard braking is accompanied by a slight growl/groan from the front, which I assume is the front left.

I’ve done numerous pad, rotor, and caliper R/Rs on other cars, but this has me stumped.

Picture of said rotor. Lots of rust and patches that have not been cleaned by the pad. Approx 10 miles on this after install.

Maybe needs another bleed? Sticking pistons? Complete removal, regrease, and reinstall?

Appreciate any help here!

Are the pads wearing evenly? If not, that would be an indication of a stuck piston.
Otherwise, I would suspect bad rotors.

It almost looks like pad smearing as well. Multiple pad compounds on the same rotor. Do you feel any juddering or pulsing in the pedal when you brake?

Pads and rotors looked perfect before replacing the calipers. No issues before this. The calipers (along with ss lines) are the only new parts in the braking system.

šŸ¤” I'm rather stumped as well.

Did the pads/rotors sit for awhile outside or anything?
Other than checking that all the mounting hardware was installed correctly, I'd say just drive it a bit more and see if it "wears in".

unless the pads are contaminated or the rotors are way off I can t see that not all coming clean during a few very hard stops. Follow a bedding procedure to heat and clean them off.

Well, figured it out.

Big slice of humble pie and quite embarrassing, but I feel it’s important to share publicly to emphasize the importance of PROPER installation. A byproduct of rushing a job in the midst of military retirement, college, fatherhood, life. A good reminder to slow it down no matter how long I’ve been turning wrenches.

I’ll just leave this here….

LOL! šŸ˜†
I've done my fair share of f*ck ups but I can't say I've seen pads installed that way before. Glad it was an easy and obvious fix though.
Time for new rotors!

A first for sure! Thankfully, no apparent damage to either side of the pad or rotor. Looks like the brake grease kept things safe. Just a big brake clean now.

Some people wear their pads all the way down to the backplate. You just decided to do it the other way around. Nothing wrong with trying new things. :giggle:

if it makes you feel any better - i've done the opposite. I'd love to say that was years ago, but this pad is from Oct 😬
