Nice photos, thanks @tosha. Photos of topside of your completed hood?

I plan to skip rain trays. Not necessary IMO. I will only be doing vents replacing the OEM ones, and not do a center vent.

Top side is nothing special, I have it posted here somewhere in related threads. I did some efficiency testing with strings and middle one looked a lot more useful in air extraction. It's also posted here somewhere.

Interesting. Logic says the center vent should be more effective than equivalent-area side vents. But @NeverSatisfied (I think) posted his string video that showed more lift from the side vents!

I'm not having CHT issues on track so far, but any hood vents are likely to reduce front lift (a little) and help cooling (a little) than no vents. I'm leaning side vents because I really like the look of my full-length dual hood strips (and so does the missus).

Body saw from Harbor Freight. Drill a hole through to start and then cut away.

Depending on which vents you use, remember that in some cases you'll be able to see the body color near the slats. Mask off a line connecting the holes you'll use to attach it, scuff the clear coat a bit with some scotchbrite pads, and then paint it a matching satin black to keep it from showing.

Edit: no idea why the forum flipped this image 🤣

Also a cheap set of cleco pins will help you during the process to make sure everything gets installed correctly.

I misspoke, I have racelouvers, not tracspec. Otherwise, here are the posts with details:

Racelouvers have proper aero design that makes center vent very efficient. Tracspec vent is not very effective, there's that.

Even if you don't have CHT issues, every bit of hot air extraction from engine bay helps in my opinion.

I was thinking on getting this, with a diamond blade.

But maybe this is better??
Not sure if you're tied to any particular tool system but strongly suggest a cordless tool. Especially now where just about everything from Milwaukee or Dewalt is on sale.

I am designing my own. They will replace the OEM hood "nostrils" for a more uniform look. And I plan to follow the Race Louvers idea where the leading vane is shortest and highest angle (Gurney flap idea) followed by a half dozen vanes which are progressively taller and at lesser angles.

I am figuring a new tool for this project will likely be a one-time use. So I don't need lots of features or high quality name brand. But you're right, now is the time to shop for it.

And yes, I see that the Dremel tools are both corded. Guess I'll look at HF next.

I have a full drawer now of red-colored tools I've used once or twice ;-)
Having said that - if you're around Cincy anytime soon, you can borrow mine - with a bunch of batteries. So you don't have to invest if you really don't want to. I also have a jigsaw, M12 hacksaw (with a bunch of blades) and corded Dremel (and probably something else I am forgetting about that can be useful).

Yeah, I keep thinking about reaching out to you to meetup and just talk shop. And maybe @K4fxd

I did mine with the hood on the car. Four and a half inch cut off wheel. It went thru everything. I measured 900 times before I cut and still messed up Lol. Its off center a bit. I wish Trackspec nostril ones actually removed the nostril. I hate that they install behind them. Does anyone know of any that install in place of the nostrils?

Curious to see your nostril replacements. I want to remove mine as well. The 15-17 vents from Trackspec are so much better
