Seems to be a popular topic. I wonder how many went through 5 pages to get to me.
Not that anybody cares, but my wife gave up driving so I ended up with her 2015 Edge with the V6 and all wheel drive as my daily driver.

Hands down a Tesla Model 3 Performance.

Same length and weight as a GT.

3 second 0-60. Actually, quicker than a GT-500 until high 90s.

All kinds of perks, like free on-line factory service manual updated constantly, Built-in high tech diagnostics up the yazoo, a "new" car every month or so. Just one of MANY examples: Matrix headlights factory installed for years but crippled to meet backwards US laws. Now as the laws are being loosened, the free over the air updates (for life) are turning on the benefits. Expecting a hack soon to have the matrix lights display "MOVE OVER" in lane bandits' mirrors LoL. etc, etc, etc, etc.

Oh, and 1/4 the cost of gas for the electricity IF you can charge at home and have a time of use plan. If not, you'll pay about as much as for gas at public chargers AND plan on spending ~15 minutes at a stop. But charge at home and you eliminate gas stations entirely and realize it was not the most fun pumping gas out in the weather while carjackers are sizing you or your wife up. LoL

Downsides I see are:
  1. The volatility of used prices due to combination of ever improving price/performance of EVs (helped bankrupt Hertz when they counted on selling retired EVs for similar prices as retired ICE but by retirement times, new EVs sold at that price), and demand fluctuations caused by flip flopping mandates and govt gaslighting uninformed buyers. So, buy used if not planning to keep it long.

  2. Road trips. I guess not a downside for this topic of daily drivers. But You need to make sure any trip doesn't take you down stretches of roads where chargers are uncomfortably far apart. You might have to change the shortest route, and you will pay gas prices for the charging.

Didn't think I'd like the full glass roof until I realized that coupled with the TINY trunk and frunk panels meant most birds aren't skilled enough to hit any painted surface.

was that an edge sport? that was the only way to get a v6 in the 2nd gen edge, all the rest got the 2.0 ecoboost 4 cylinder. My wife has had 4 2nd gen edges, a 16 SEL, 17 TITANIUM, 20 ST, and now a 24 ST. the ST also gets the 2.7 v6, it's really just a renamed sport.

In 2 years I'll be actively searching for a more fun daily driver and leaning towards the Ranger raptor. I will probably keep the Toyota for as long as it will allow.
Just how on the edge is your wife that she needs TWO Edges?

The Wifemobile/Family Truckster is a 2016 Toyota Highlander. We take that most any time the whole family is going somewhere. If it's just my wife and I, we will most often take the Mustang.

My other car is a 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon. I split driving pretty evenly between that and the Mustang. I've always been a wagon guy, having one as a second car most of my car-owning life. I think this is my 7th. I'd consider this 96 to be the ultimate old-school wagon.

Lots of us care!
Good luck with the Edge. Hope your wife is OK.

Daily driver duties see me driving the '19 F150 RCSB or the '23 Wrangler Rubi. Most of the days in the fair weather months here in MN see the Jeep, where the truck gets the brunt of the winter abuse.

The Mustang holds down the shop floor other than nice weekends or the occasional summer Friday to work.

2011 Ford Fusion SE with the 3.0 V6. A car so ordinary and unremarkable the only picture I have saved is from the listing when I purchased it. But she's been a good DD.

Seeing a Roadmaster in 1 garage with 2 other vehicles is damn impressive.

Wish I had the alloy wheels. I didn't even realize the Fusions like mine actually have hubcaps and steelies until I purchased it.

SOOOOO the 2015 edge has 220kish miles on it. Has had absolutely ZERO issues. When she found out they were discontinuing the edge she decided she wanted to have one ready to go when the 2015 maybe becomes too challenging to own. So bought a second one and drives it once a week and if the 2015's time comes she will be in a great position. Thats my wife.

Picked up my 2021 Mach 1 in Jan 2022 as a retirement gift to myself. Traded my 2020 Lexus RX 350 for a 2024 BMW X5 last October. Both cars are great to drive but lately I have been seriously jonesing for a Brittany Blue Heritage Edition GT500 with white stripes.
