I've used dryer sheets in my tractor for more than a decade (change them seasonally)

What does the Damp Rid do for mice? Or is that for rust prevention?

Helpful thread, thanks.

Add peppermint spray to the list of deterrents. I use it on my driveway parked Silverado. Since I began spraying it in the engine bay ( not on the engine) I have had zero issues with critters. Amazon sells a spray just for this …. Of course.

Hello; This and the other suggestions already mentioned I am using. I do peppermint two ways. One is in a spray bottle the other is on a cotton ball in the engine compartment. I find peppermint essential oil extract at a local Wal-Mart. Two types can be had. One sort in the food aisle which is not the oil. The other in different location.

Not sure if this has been mentioned. One source suggested cayenne pepper. I found some powdered and mixed up a spray bottle. I also just dust in on the floor of my carport from time to time.

My chewed wire happened in a pickup I use year round. I have a stick built carport open on all four sides. It had cosmetic soffit covers made of plywood which created enclosed spaces. After twelve years of no problems has a squirrel make a nest in the soffit one winter. loaded it with walnuts. I think the food drew mice and the mice nested in my warm engine compartment. I took the plywood covers off two years ago and no issues since. I also use many of th things mentioned in this thread. point is do not store dog food or any such where the car is stored.

Bounce dryer sheets stuffed everywhere in the vehicle, including under the hood and in the trunk. Smells great in the spring, unlike moth balls.

Tomcat bait stations along the inside perimeter/base of the building walls: https://tomcatbrand.com/en-us/shop/...iller-child-resistant-disposable-station.html

Avoid loose mouse poison as they carry it away and stash it where you don't want it. My experience with the stations linked above is that a mouse will crawl inside and eat and die either inside the station or inches from it.

I've lived in a wooded area for over 20 years, and have never had mice in any stored vehicle using only these two things. Including items with engines kept inside my garden shed, which isn't sealed up anywhere near as well as my house, garage, or shop.

Hello; I have two of these stations. The trick as I understand it is the bait has a hole in it. So, it fits onto a metal pin inside the bait station. They cannot carry it off and must eat it in place. These also are designed so kids and pets cannot get to the bait. I put a couple of bricks on top.

NOTE- Been told that a rat will test a new food by taking it to a nest and letting the young try it first. If the young die the rat will avoid the new food. Thís is supposed to be why the Tomcat stations work. They have to eat in place. Sounds sketchy to me. I know the bait gets eaten after a time as I sometimes find partly eaten baits.

This is an easy one, I store mine 5-6 months a year in a somewhat unattended warehouse, have been doing so with these seasonal cars for about 7 years now.

Moth balls on a paper plate on top of each wheel, usually 2 bags of moth balls per box, grab 2 and nothing will come near your vehicle.

I've heard a lot of suggestions, I'm dealing with another car with a gnarly mouse infestation right now.

What I've learned is that if the car is up on jack stands, to where there's a significant distance between the bottom of the tires and the ground. It is very hard for mice to enter or exit the car. It was kind of by accident, there were rodents in the car and I inadvertently starved them by putting the car on jacks. The couldn't leave the car to forage for food. The 90 degree interface between the jack and the car is difficult for them to navigate.

I learned from my house that basically nothing repels mice, there are smells and materials they don't like but its very hard to actually prevent them from taking hold. The like warm dry locations with lots of hiding spots in the dark. Your heated garage is going to be a place they like.

Mice do not like light, they also do not like crossing large open areas. Keeping an LED light on in the garage will not cost much at all and will help to deter rodents of all kinds. Keeping the car away from walls such that they'd have to cross a large exposed area will also help.

I'd put the car on jacks, and then put traps under it, a foraging mouse may be attracted to the bait on the trap before they make their way into the car. I like this bait
I use bounce sheets. I havent had a problem so far. If I do then I'll say they dont work

Greetings,

I am storing my 2022 Mustang GT for the Winter. It will be stored in a 6-stall garage that is heated. It is in a suburb of Minneapolis, but on a 2-arce lot that is wooded. I am afraid of mice eating my wiring. There has been no indication that mice have attached the other stored cars there in past Winters, but I want to take measures to detour the little bastards. What are the rest of you all doing for Winter storage?

Thanks in advance.............
Cheese under the others?😉

I second this!! I peppermint oil diluted in water and spray the engine compartment especially around the fire wall

I done just about everything to keep the mice and chipmunks out of my shop. They just keep coming like zombies. I have a mine field of snap traps around the cars and mothball bags under them .peppermint cotton balls under hood .bait stations outside. And bucket traps.i leave the hood open as said they don't like to be seen. Living in the woods can be a PIA.

I drive my car at least every week or every other week. It don't snow everyday and when it does I wait a few days after when all snow is off the ground and I take the main roads.

I use these. I stick 2 in the engine compartment and 1 in the cabin.

I also have 4-5 Mouse traps in the garage. Peanut butter seems to work good.
