Greetings,

I am storing my 2022 Mustang GT for the Winter. It will be stored in a 6-stall garage that is heated. It is in a suburb of Minneapolis, but on a 2-arce lot that is wooded. I am afraid of mice eating my wiring. There has been no indication that mice have attached the other stored cars there in past Winters, but I want to take measures to detour the little bastards. What are the rest of you all doing for Winter storage?

Thanks in advance.............

I've heard a lot of suggestions, I'm dealing with another car with a gnarly mouse infestation right now.

What I've learned is that if the car is up on jack stands, to where there's a significant distance between the bottom of the tires and the ground. It is very hard for mice to enter or exit the car. It was kind of by accident, there were rodents in the car and I inadvertently starved them by putting the car on jacks. The couldn't leave the car to forage for food. The 90 degree interface between the jack and the car is difficult for them to navigate.

I learned from my house that basically nothing repels mice, there are smells and materials they don't like but its very hard to actually prevent them from taking hold. The like warm dry locations with lots of hiding spots in the dark. Your heated garage is going to be a place they like.

Mice do not like light, they also do not like crossing large open areas. Keeping an LED light on in the garage will not cost much at all and will help to deter rodents of all kinds. Keeping the car away from walls such that they'd have to cross a large exposed area will also help.

I'd put the car on jacks, and then put traps under it, a foraging mouse may be attracted to the bait on the trap before they make their way into the car. I like this bait

also don't waste your time with poison, they'll eat and return to their nest where they will die and stink. Usually in your walls.

Traps/poison in the garage. Try to seal up holes in the garage as well.

BOUNCE DRYER SHEETS UNDER THE HOOD, IN THE CAR, IN THE EXHAUST AND ALL AROUND WIRING. HAVE SOME GLUE TRAPS AROUND ALONG WITH SOME MOTH BALLS SPREAD OVER ESPECIALLY UNDER THE CAR. HOPEFULLY THIS WORKS FOR ME AGAIN THIS YEAR. THOSE PEPPERMINT OIL BAGS SEEM TO WORK AS WELL.

I heard mice don't like much sound, so I keep a radio playing medium volume in the garage. Also those high frequency mouse things (not sure how effective they are). Haven't had a problem, and we are in the country where there are lots of mice.

1. Glue traps everywhere along the walls (they travel against walls)
2. Lights on
3. Hood open to keep light coming in
4. Radio up loud
5. Check traps DAILY, I've seen them free themselves if left to struggle long enough

When a squirl eat a few of my truck wires 20 years ago I used Rodant repel spray and sprayed the inside engine bay and then went to menards or lowes and picked up rodent kill chipmunk control poison blocks and put a few around the garage and inside of the engine bay and spread rat mouse posion around the garage. Rat traps with peanut butter works wonders also. Good luck choosing your poison so to speak.

Thanks in advance.............

Jack stands and remove your wheels while up to create a larger distance from jumping 'up'.
