Going 120 on cruise feels like you’re being pulled along by the car instead of pushing the car up to speed.
So one time I looked down and saw the needle on 160. Does the needle go past 160 or does it stop there no matter how much faster you go?
My experience that one time was a learning moment in that I went to slow down too soon. I just closed the throttle and went right on the brakes. I should have left off slowly and had a moment of coasting before braking which would have had a better feeling of stability.

If your speed-o has a mechanical stop it won't go past 160 or what ever is max. I've never had mine past 160 and I don't remember if the speed-o has a stop. I don't think it does, so it would keep moving past 160.

I have a couple of clusters in the shop, I'll look at one close.

I think the Mustang is rev-limited to 155mph. Could be wrong.

Depends on what car you have. My cruise sets well above 120. Only know this because of BBORR.

Also, the instability is caused by you upsetting the car. Did you punch the brake pedal too, which caused an uncontrolled weight transfer?

186 in the Mach 1. I can’t imagine.
186mph as in 300kph? I had a ZX-10R speed limited to that b/c of motorcycle industry's fear that governments would regulate their industry in a way they wouldn't want if they didn't regulate themselves. Is it possibly the same with the Mach 1?

I’ve had mine to the 155 limit twice. No real want to go quite that fast. Only thing I’ve got is anecdotal from a buddy. Had a supercharged 17. Said he had the needle buried way past 160 once. Take that for the little it’s worth.

The digital speedo will keep going. The car is hard limited at 188 even with a flash tune. I’ve gotten there once. Would never do it again on public roads. Nor should you unless on the suspension and tire for it.

That occurred back in 2000 after the 99/2000 Hayabusa was able to hit 200 mph from the factory and the EU mandated that no motorcycle will be allowed to be sold that could exceed 186 mph in the EU so in 2001 all bikes were speed limited to 186 mph for the entire world since the big four jap manufactures would not alter bikes for the US or other markets for a higher top speed.

We had a test rider at Harley that had a 1999 Hayabusa that he got permission from the local PD to do a one time speed run on speedway blvd in front of Talladega super speedway clocked by radar and he hit 201 mph on it in one direction and backed it up with a 199 in the other against the wind.

So, 2000 was the last year for any bike to exceed 186 from the factory. There is a harness that can be put in line from the speed sensor to the ECU that halves the signal to fool it and allow the ECU to not limit the speed but then your speedo reads half as fast as you are going.
