All tri-stage paints are hated by body shops. Chipping is an application issue, not a paint composition issue.

All i'm saying is Mazda's Soul Red chips like a motherfucker.

I know, I know. However, have you ever noticed the Mazda equivalent of the rapid red? Holy crap. It stands out brighter than the sun. It's amazing. The red shown on the carbon series is nice too, the one seen at tje preview at Lemans

That colour is very popular in the U.K. and it does look great

Which then made me think of an orange, and no one had mentioned orange up to this post :

But the orange I had in mind is a reasonably new one from Renault - which I’m not sure you would have seen over there ?

It’s typically seen on the Clio, but from the first time I spotted one I said it should have been on a supercar.

In real life, it’s as deep and mesmerising as that Mazda red, but it’s orange.

I believe the colour is ‘Orange Valencia’. Read the first two lines of the process description’ from PPG, they are very accurate :

Just like that Mazda red, photos really don’t do it justice, but this gives a hint of what it looks like to the naked eye :

If you don’t get that colour over there and time permitting, maybe it’s one to seek out and view the next time you are this side of the pond ?

There is a similar vivid blue that’s just launched in euro land that grabs a lot of attention, just shout up if blues are on your radar and I will get more details

But who are we kidding ? Everyone knows it will look best in grabber lime …

I like some of the colors Mercedes put on the AMG GTR. Or consider talking to a custom car builder about a formula they use - or even having them make up a specific formula unique to you based on your preferences.

In my opinion, the GTD is a really special car and it deserves a more unique treatment than something lifted from a common production car.

Edit: remember this ad for the grabber lime green Ford started using in 2019? IMO the color in the ad is way different than the green that ended up on Mustangs. I would try to shoot for something like this - maybe with the gold metallic amped up even a little more.

I can't think of a better color expert and I'd like your thoughts on potential colors for the GTD.

Thank you for the vote of confidence, Tom but as you and everyone else knows, choosing a paint color is one of THE best ways to make you wind up at the Funny Farm. <BSEG> It's a bitch, any way you slice it.

Anyway my first question is, do you plan to choose a one-off, locked in color or, one of the twelve standard colors?

If it's the former, we need to start with a base "hue," and again, being partial to Red, I would start with Rapid and "tweak" it. Ditto if you're leaning another color direction, we would start with the standard and massage it the same way. Therefive, if you're going for the "one off," lemme know.

Meanwhile, you've obviously seen all the available colors but here are all 12 in one place although these are rendered images and depending on the software used, colors can be very close or WayTF off. These images at least to my eyes, look fairly accurate.

I flew with a wackjob who did just that.

I know all too well what that was like, Tom.

I would try to match BMW’s Imola Red. I’ve always loved that color.

I also like the metallic red GM has available.

I’m always of the opinion that flashy cars need flashy colors. I love the yellows that ford has offered over the years. Grabber Yellow, Triple Yellow, School Bus Yellow. All fantastic colors.

Also love me some Grabber Orange, Gotta Have it Green and Need For Green. And Grabber Lime as well.
