Hey guys, I have a 2022 GT 6 speed with active exhaust and installed a borla switchire a few months ago. The sound is good - definitely louder and higher pitched, but it does have some excessive rasp (especially when it bounces off things right next to the car like highway guardrails and other cars at WOT). I love the sound in some situations but the rasp is just a little too much in others, so I'm thinking about making a change. Don't really want to put the OEM resonator back on as that was too muffled, and from youtube videos an H-pipe seems like it could help, but it may not be the tone I'm after and seems to have similar levels of rasp as the switchfire. Admittedly, I can't find many "in car" videos with windows down h pipe AE cars at WOT, so if you guys have a link to a video you could share, that could be helpful just to confirm what I've heard on youtube.

To resolve the rasp and quiet it down slightly, I would like to weld in some vibrant bullet style resonators, but there's not a bunch of room with the switchfire, so I'm thinking about doing a steeda x pipe and cutting and welding the resonators on the straight section after the x (like the GT350 OEM resonators). Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Or have any other solutions that I may not be thinking of? I'm also open to catback suggestions but not trying to egregiously break the bank and would need to retain the active functions.

FWIW, I have the H with the stock active mufflers and the tone is very similar to the stock resonator, just louder. An X will bring out the rasp of the coyote, more so than an H will. You can put Vibrant’s on after the X or H if you want, it should take some of the rasp out but will also bring the volume down a bit too. A few have done something like that, I have not. The Coyote is naturally raspy, it’s hard to to totally get rid of it unless you go with something really deep like Magnaflow. But I’ve heard Magnaflow drones quite a bit.

I have the steeda x pipe on my 22 GT and it is perfect, not to raspy, but definitely wakes up the sound from stock. Normal driving conditions you are under the radar, and it actually picks up a measurable amount of hp and tq (Dyno proven).

Steeda H for me. I was prepared to do a couple bullet resonators if needed. They arent. It sounds great to me

From what I can tell, I prefer the tone of an x pipe more, just don’t want a ton of rasp. I think my plan is to do a steeda x and see how I like it, then add some bullet resonators if it’s too raspy. Just wish there were some videos of how that sounded because I wouldn’t want to quiet down the car too much.

I have the full Borla S type with X pipe and I love the sound. Not really that raspy at all to me. Might get that way soon though, I have a set of Texas Speed Catted Long Tubes in my garage to put up stream of the X pipe in the next couple weeks :)

And welcome from another East Tennessean :) if you haven't already, look up Smoky Mountain Stangs on Facebook. Great Mustang group here in East TN, good people.

Thanks for the heads up! Just joined the group. Been looking to get more involved outside of the occasional cars and coffee at west town mall lol.

Yeah that C&C is nuts. And too early for me to find a parking place. We cruise regularly, and will meet up during PITS as well. That gonna be a good week.

I'm in the "idk which one I want X/H". When you removed the resinator did you also remove the sound tube in the engine bay? Or does that not matter in terms of hearing the sound with either or?

Removing the sound tube doesn’t really have an impact. Honestly, I didn’t really notice a difference when I removed mine. I just wanted a cleaner look in the engine bay and it gets in the way of the dipstick a bit.

But you do end up hearing more sound from the resinator delete, but it's not droney right? I'm thinking of going into the shop when I get my oil change and getting the resinator swapped.

That’s correct. You do get more sound but it’s not drone. Just an increase in volume with the res delete

Just thought I’d update this now that I’m feeling things are resolved. I took off the switchfire and put on a steeda x pipe and it made a huge difference. Was prepared to put some vibrant resonators on the steeda x pipe but it sounds so good that I’m leaving it alone. The steeda x is about as loud as the switchfire but it’s not as raspy and has a more balanced tone to it. Cold starts also aren’t as insane as the switchfire (they are still crazy loud tho). All in, I’m pretty happy with the result and steeda really does make a great product. Still can’t believe switching pipe geometries made that much of a difference.

Are you sure you had the SwitchFire clamped down properly?:
The streeda x pipe sounded wayyy worse than the SwitchFire.
I’ve tried them all didn’t like any of them with the active exhaust.
went back to stock for a short while which actually was the best sound.

but the only true way is to spend some cash and get a proper cat back exhaust. The Borla S-type is amazing. No resonator delete will ever match the sound of a cat back.

I went Steeda H pipe with the AE exhaust. Sounds great no rasp. I wanted to go full cat back but they all have an x pipe. My hearing is really sensitive and I can hear the rasp with every x pipe cat back I’ve heard and I just don’t like it. I’ve heard the magnaflow mod and the Borla atak in person. And after 4k rpm I hear it. I need to hear the Corsa in person. I may order the Corsa axle back for the AE. Is just 2300$ for two cans and tips though. I’m in no rush, the H sounds great and the OEM cans aren’t bad. Probs be better to throw that money into a supercharger.
