A classic has some advantages. The value won't immediately tank right after you purchase. Of course a GT350 has a similar advantage in that it can be expected to retain its value.

Id imagine the Supra does just fine with its resale value. Its not being made much longer and production numbers are quite low.

I meant new. Due to crash standards, Emissions BS, people wanting all sorts of gadgets and whizbangs to play with, pure (street legal) sports cars are gone.

Maybe you are right, but I would say it remains to be seen whether the Supra will retain its value. I bet the early ones with less HP have declined significantly already. And depending on what BMW makes next, they may all tank.

I guess it depends on whether you prefer the "features" like crash standards, 20 air bags, emissions, etc. You said you prefer older cars. But then you act like buying one is not an option. I guess I'm a little confused by your statements.

I actually think newish cars are better than 90s cars. The last 10 years a lot of good cars have been built. I would run an older vehicle, but I'd want a modern powertrain in it.

But I do kind of agree with you that what is in showrooms right at this minute - to me the value isn't quite there compared to buying a car that's a few years old.

I’m enjoying the fact that, at age 49, my idea of “street cred” is not giving a flying fuck what anyone else thinks.

I drive what I like. And I like stuff that’s a bit unorthodox. Which is how I ended up with a 2.3L HPP + HP. If I want the V8 experience, I have a 5.0 ‘vert in the garage willing to dance (so long as the weather is nice; she’s a pampered queen). My other weird choices over the years included an SVT Contour and a Lincoln LS Sport with the rare Getrag 221 5-speed manual, in Estate Green of all colors.

GT350 or Supra? Don’t buy based on “cred.” That’s stupid, and you’ll be chasing an unobtainable goal so long as fads and tastes change.

Buy what you enjoy driving. End of story.

For the record, the most fun car I’ve ever driven isn’t one of my Mustangs or even the 2017 GT350 I got to play with years ago. It was an NC Miata with a full race setup to the point of being barely street legal. That thing was an absolute hoot.

I paid $43,800 for my 2016 in December 2019, when it had 7.5k miles on it. It now has 27k on it and is worth $50k.

What is confusing about my statement? I want a brand new car, that is built more like the older sports cars. Lite weight, Small, hydraulic steering, no start stop, collision avoidance crap, parking sensors, etc. But still have modern CANbus communication, new wiring and materials, and maybe sprinkle in some Magnaride suspension and the power of more modern platforms (BMW S58, Coyote, LT4 etc. ) Sure, I can buy a car from the 90's, and all of its components and ancient computer will be 30 years old.

I hate to ask this question. I currently own a 5.0 right now and I am wondering if I should buy the gt350 or the Supra. I’m not well versed with cars as much, for all I know is that whatever goes faster is what appeals to me but something that’s definitely hard for me to make up my mind about is “do I want a gt350 or a Supra?”. There’s a couple of things I need help with. For one, is the gt350 faster than the Supra?, for two, is the gt350 more reliable than the supra, for three, which vehicle definitely has more respect with a better reputation within the car community, for fourth, does the gt350 have an equal amount of tuning potential to be neck to neck with the Supra if not better. Those are my questions, I’m 19, I work in sales and my jobs are about 12-16 miles out from my house, I mainly work 5 days a week but I always love to treat myself to new things and this next new thing is a new car. I need help, please guide me.

Lets get this pushed aside, I used to have a 2.3L then I was able to trade it in for now money to a 2015 5.0, I haven’t yet changed my profile

I will echo what others said in this thread though. I would keep the 5.0 for now.
I’m relatively close to your age (25) and unless you have a trust fund you won’t believe how the expenses pile up once you get a house, engaged etc. I was making money at 19 too, I get it, it’s hard but if I could do one thing over again I’d save more cash early on. You make good money I assume? Don’t wait until you’re 23 or 24 to start investing like I did. I kept saying “next year I’ll put money away” until I next year’d myself out of probably a hundred thousand dollars worth of gains i missed out on by not investing the money.

I make 8-9k in commission. I’ve been averaging paychecks after tax about 4.7k every 2 weeks

Let me go ahead and stop you here. I think your brain can’t process that 19 year olds can make really good money from having really good sales skills and side hustles. Just so you know, i live with a single mother who lives off of social security money which is only enough for peanuts. While me and my 2 other brothers are paying for the mortgage, utilities, phone, car bills, everything. So before you say my money was given, it’s actually well earned. It’s just unfortunate that for someone your age still can’t be making this kind of money, not even at 19. Sad son eh.
