Sometimes I really wonder if it’s just me. Or maybe it’s just the mentality of true car guys. But I have a hard time being satisfied with what I have. An S550 GT is probably as perfect for most people as a street car gets. In fact, it’s probably more car than I and most have the ability to fully use on the street, and I don’t do track. But, I now also have two Mach 1s and I’m even eyeballing GT500s.

I‘m a logical and reasonable guy so this makes no sense even to me. Seems like if something is out there I want it whether I need and can use it or not. And no, the problem is not what you’re thinking. But it is real.

Anybody else ever deal with this?

Hmmm, maybe just a little FI on one of the Machs…

I dont wish for more honestly as I feel I am traction limited even at some pretty good speeds especially if the pavement is a bit cool.

i dont think I’ve truly gone WOT in this car and held it for fear of it getting squirrelly. I’ve been snake bit a few times with pushing it on cool or cold pavement.

Yup. 100% agree. I’ve not used all my car has stock but have throw probably $10,000 more into it. Now I’m eyeing a whipple just because. More dollars then sense would apply to me and I won’t apologize.

I am guilty of wanting more even though I can't use what I have. I started with just a plug-in that adds 4.5lbs of boost with 93 octane. I don't know why I did it. There's no place I can accelerate at full throttle for more than 6 seconds. I'm hearing impaired so I can't fully appreciate the sound. It's just a sickness, I think!

I refused to drive my son's GT500. That's too much temptation and I have no will power.

So, I’m guessing your car is not a stock A10 GT then?

I'm a bit OCD with my Mustang when it comes to appearance and comfort. But performance-wise, I'm gun-shy. The drive train is so complex that I'm afraid of starting a very expensive process of chasing performance and ending up de-stabilizing what Ford has engineered. I'd love to improve the ride and smooth out the 10R80 shifting (both are 'comfort' items, I guess) but I don't yet understand the proper path. But changing engine-related stuff is not on my list. The Coyote has PLENTY of power just the way it is! (Ok, maybe a street tune to smooth things out some day....)

No it is completely stock. I think the stock Pzero Nero tires got me a bit scared with this car. I have Continental DW06+ on it now and they are far better and I think I just need to trust them more.

And if not even going WOT is fast enough then anything faster for me would just be for better part throttle racing….. or bragging rights.

But I can see the desire for a GT 500 it is an amazing car.

As long as I have enough power to break the tires loose at will I’m good. If I can within the confines of the stock setup generate more acceleration then traction, means I have plenty.

I have 2 smaller pullies that I could install on my whipple to turn it up safely, but I havent gotten around to it for years and I even have an aluminator now, so basically at like 750 wheel hp I think you are pretty much satisfied on the street.

there are 31 flavors. try something else. And no, I don't want more power because if you can't put it down (and also not end up in jail) it's pointless. Do yourself a favor and go drive an HPDE day. It'll disabuse you of 'want more' and furthermore you'll understand the truism, it's better than sex.

When you're old and gray and whispering your last words, you don't want them to be "i was too chicken to drive my 500HP car on a proper race track".

I see it as a bench racing ego thing, to say at a car meet that you have x hp under hood.
I get more impressed when the owner scienced out the chassis to use the power on hand be it the stock power rating or the extra they added.
As a racer, spinning tires is not fast and never was. Looks cool, but I like hook and go quick and brutal over fishtails.
You've gone through what 3 or 4 s550's in the span of 2 years or so.
Are you just bored or don't honestly know what you want? Not going to knock you for being able to just swap cars like underwear, but maybe step back and take time to think deep and hard on what you truly want before pulling the trigger again, only to be looking for something else in 6 months time. You do what ever works for you but mull it over awhile before hand.

I have a need for speed. But not just cars. Anything that can move fast and I am able to control. Have it since I was a kid. Obviously 750 HP in my Mustang are not enough anymore, soon.

Honestly, does it really matter if you can use all the power on the street if you enjoy driving and owning the car? Clearly we can’t even use all the power the GT and Mach 1 provides yet we still have a blast driving them and owning them. To me, that’s what it’s really about. The enjoyment the car gives you.

If you like the way the GT500 looks and drives, go for it! Having driven all 4 S550 Shelby‘s available ex Super Snakes (GT350/R & GT500 base/CFTP), I can say I’m hooked. I was grinning like a village idiot driving those cars and I still giggle when I think about driving them. They’re just fun cars even if you can’t push them to the limits on the street. And they look great and grab people’s attention. Even better if you can get them on a track once or twice a year, nothing serious just a local HPDE event or something. Just to stretch the legs of the car a bit and see what it’s truly capable of. My $0.02
