Nobody likes Mach 1's

M1 is special to the people that like them, plain and simple. Anyone into modifications would likely not be interested. M1 is good for folks that want a decent spec and don't plant to mod the car. I couldn't imagine an M1 getting anymore attention than a gt at a gathering. They are either a fan of the m1 or they think its something more than it is. Again no offense, I'm sure it's a nice car but M1 owners are usually looking for some props cause they spent more than a gt owner. I personally don't want to pay for stuff that I'm going to change. That's why I think that a large portion of m1 owners will keep their car stock.

Again I mean that in the nicest way possible. Nothing wrong with having a nice car and keeping it stock. Stock is just not my thing. My pal has a 2017 1le camaro with 3k miles on it. He tells me I don't know what it's like to have a nice car LOL. To each their own.

You might be correct about most people will not modify their Mach 1's, but I had my modified before I even took delivery of the vehicle. It is a track car after all, and suspension upgrades are something I believe that people who track their car will look into. Though I didn't only do suspension upgrades. I built the car like I wanted to, and I don't regret any of it.

The only M1 I have ever seen was at my local Ford Dealership (south Florida). I actually sat in it, shadow black, manual gears. Should have excited me, but it didn't. With all respect, its a beautiful car, but I rather add all the goodies myself, or at least choose the ones I want to add to my GT

I'd say a large majority of M1 owners will keep em bone stock, pop the hood and put a little mustang model on the intake manifold. Setup a big panel board with all the stock specifications and stand at the ready to throw out all info from the brochure or supporting reviews.

There are tons of cars out there that are cool that we don't really understand. Usually cause we simply don't have exposure to them. Was shopping for a mini cooper for my daughter. The 2023 JCW cooper is a badass little car. I was really digging it. Not something I'd ever say. Not something I'd ever walk up to either.

Would you say that if an m1 owner swapped out suspension, brakes, wheels etc that they essentially spoiled what the car is?

Hi Mike, a lesson my adult children remember to this day, and tell my grandchildren repeatedly, "What other poeple think is none of my business". Goes for cars too. You have an awesome car, period, end of story. F-ck those who just want to make themselves feel better by trying to make you feel like shit.

I agree with you. That would be the driving factor in justifying a M1.

I don't know how many shows or Cars-n-Coffee events anyone on here goes to, or what vehicle they are "showing" or the demographic of such shows in XYZ area.

However, I can say that I've been going to such events for 35+ years now. Go way back to the "original 5.0 Fox days", if you were showing a "specialty" Fox Mustang at such an event THEN, the Classics would still be taking the trophies, oogly eyes and comments/discussions. Fast forward to today, any such showing or event - the Classics STILL get that same attention over ANY modern day Fox, SN95, S197 or S550 "niche" Mustang.

Why?

Because the Classics were throw aways in their time, they were just a car, they were death traps with no nannie's and metal dashboards, they were just transportation, they were just driven and let alone those factoids - many of the then Muscle Cars were still "just a car" regardless of their power plants, their 60's-70's shock'em color combos and varies sticker/stripe packages. These were automobiles that were beat on and didn't have long term life expectancies due to design and also lack of "tech" back then. They weren't expected to hang on 50-60 years later. THESE are the vehicles you rarely see on the road today and they get that attention at shows because of the very facts mentioned.

The automotive world has evolved in the last 50-60 years - but everyone thinks some "Limited Edition" is going to be worth bucko bucks in the future (50-60 years ahead of today). The problem is, the modern Muscle/Sports car "Limited Edition" (for Ford at least) really isn't all that Limited as it used to be in the past.

Before getting any panties in a wad over that statement - what I meant by that is, a Ford Limited Edition in the past used to be a production run of under 3k-5k a year, that was IT. It was NOT "hey, let's call it a "Limited Edition" and produce it for 5+ years with a total count of over 30k +/-". In the grand scheme of things, sure it's a Limited Edition, yes it's "chassis numbered", but when there is a larger pool of them - it really is not so limited.

Limited 10 years ago or even further back meant that through attrition (wrecks, theft, Mother Nature, exhaustion), not many of those would last 25-30 years later, because not every buyer was mothballing every one them.

Today you have everyone who has a Limited Edition afraid to drive it in the rain for crying out loud... but guess what, when you have 30k +/- of those owners also thinking the same, it's not so "limited" any more 25-30 years later.

The Classics, no one gave a shit, they were driven and raced and beat on as designed - an automobile. They weren't being mothballed in mass quantities.

The other thing too, out of all the S550's the true LE is the 50th Anniversary where only 1,964 of these were ever produced... That there is "Limited" and at some point will be fetching the big $$$, as many are already removed from the pool from our tracking thread on here.

So don't get disappointed if you're at a show or Cars-n-Coffee and folks are not enamored by your S550, or it doesn't win any awards, or folks are not talking to you about it. It's a time to meet other Enthusiasts and have a good time, learn about their rides or hear their stories too. So don't expect an award or trophy, it's when you do get one it's far easier to enjoy the win when it was NOT expected, rather than going to these events and expecting one. Because when you expect it and it doesn't happen, sure you're going to have animosity towards XYZ Brand or Club that did win.

There are tons of specialty models across damn near every brand and model. The market is flooded. The classic models had far less. Go to a cars and coffee and park an M1 next to a Hyundai Kona N, new Golf R or civic type r and see what happens.

I get it, for me it was a big upgrade going from a 15gt to the Mach 1.
I’m not too butt hurt over the Dark Horse. I do not like the front end styling or the interior one bit. So actually I’m happy there is no desire for me to switch cars.. lol
