We had a track rental event yesterday at Houston Raceway Park. I had gone a best of 11.32 @ 122.9 in great weather on stock tune so I was hoping for some consistent 11.0 passes after the Lund e85 tune and resonator delete x-pipe.

I started the day running 11.02 @ 124. My next run, I didn't get a very good burnout and spun a bit on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Ran an 11.09 @ 125. Next run was 11.02 @ 125. I hot-lapped it before lunch break and ran 11.04 @ 125. My last attempt and last opportunity of the day, I ran a 10.99 @ 125!

Mods: Lund e85 race tune (30.5* timing), Steeda resonator delete x-pipe, K&N drop-in filter (stock air box), Forgestar F14 17x4.5 on Hoosier Drag Front bias ply, 17x9 chrome bullets on MT ET Street bias ply, BMR IRS lockouts, BMR IRS braces, BMR driveshaft safety loop, an old rear seat delete kit from my S197, and JLT catch can..

I had passenger seat out, rear seats out, and trunk emptied.

I arrived at the track a bit over 1/2 tank of e85. Finished the day around 3/8 full.

Nice et and mph! I‘d love to see similar results for my manual, but I know there’s no comparison between the two. No hand and feet action in a manual can compare with that auto tranny tune.

My car’s power is almost identical to yours too, at 469 rwhp/434 rwtq. I’m really amazed at the much lower et and extra 9-10 mph an auto makes over a manual on the big end. Keep knocking that et down!

Congrats on getting into the 10s. This was done with factory exhaust manifolds and cats. Makes me question if the gains are worth it for the cost and installation of longtube headers.

Hand and feet action is probably not even half the difference. The auto is faster because of all the torque multiplication with the available gears AND the resultant higher rpm sweep.

Well, I have to seen more gains from cat deletes but LTs with high flow cats and 3" exhaust all the way would definitely put me in consistent 10s. I'm probably going to stick with stock manifolds and cats for now...easier on inspection season. I love the sound as well so I'm happy.

LTs and cats are probably 15-20hp and maybe surprisingly, very solid mid-range gains. My 2020 build with LT with cats trapped a bit over 126 in probably near +1500 DA. Only 11.26 because it was about a 1.85 60ft, no front skinnies. These cars are expensive to get a nice pickup NA - LTs or Comp Cams, upwards of $2k for maybe 20hp with either one. But I like going the unconventional way, so I'm doing the cams, electric water pump and looking for 82-8300rpm shifts.. Sorry to hijack the thread Chris, but my point is there is plenty more if you want to pay and put in the work. Awesome job, you maxed out your combo for sure. LTs & Comp cams, should be low 10.70 @ 130 in similar DA.

I'll follow your progress with the cams. I agree I'm maxed out as-is. With our drag strip closing here early next year, I'm not sure how much more I'm going to do. Closest 1/4 mile track will be 4 hours away.

Fantastic job. I've kept an eye on your no tune times when they've come up.
There's skill and satisfaction in getting a car with constraints down the track as fast as possible and finding the little hints and tricks that make a difference.
I used to enjoy LS1 bolt ons for the same reason.

BMR IRS lockouts, BMR IRS braces
How do these two affect daily drivability? Any NVH noticeable changes?

Thank you! Yeah, with how much power these cars come with stock, my first goal was (and has always been with other cars) to make the most of what it had by getting it to the ground. Wheels/tires, suspension/chassis, and reasonable weight reduction.

I did not notice any NVH with the IRS lockouts and braces. After I did those, I got a four wheel alignment and actually found the front end was pretty well out of alignment from factory. With those done, I noticed reduced wheel hop and on gear shifts under wot, the rear end stopped stepping out to the right, even if it spun, all stayed straight.

Very respectable with those mods. Thanks for sharing this. I was running mid to high 11’s with an Lund E85 tune, H-Pipe and 305-35/19 NT05’s out back. No suspension mods yet. Like you already know, I think the key is that you found the way to make the most of those pony’s by getting it to hook up properly. Great video. There’s little or no hesitation at the line and you’re launching like a bat out of hell. 👍🏼
This winter I’ll be doing locking down that rear cradle and outfitting it with drag slicks. I know I’m wasting a lot of power at the line.
I’m sorry that your track is closing up. I feel your pain. Years ago, Long Island was the racing capital of the world. At one time we had over 40 racetracks on this 118 x 23 mile sand bar. Our last NHRA sanctioned track closed up in 2003 and we have one 1/4 oval left. Urban sprawl and politics killed racing on LI. After years of lobbying for a track, We just got a race event company here to offer 1/4 and 1/8 mile racing at an old airfield. The track stinks but it’s what we’ve got to work with.

Great run and congrats breaking into the 10’s!

Can you tell us what “mode” you were running the vehicle with the 10R80? Meaning did you have the car in a certain Drive Mode, and were you using paddles to shift, or did you let the car do its thing?

Well don't fret. My best was 11.2x @ 125 mph with my 17 manual GT. Passenger seat in. 91 octane tune but using 100 octane race gas. Just added 4 degrees globally so around 28.5 total. I think a smaller rear tire & better clutch will get me a 10.9x. Current tires are 28" x 11.5" rear.

OP: congrats!

The selector was in Drive and I had it in Drag mode with adv trac disabled. I let the car shift itself. 2000 RPM leave. I may have been able to go higher but I didn't want to risk wasting a run by pushing through the beams.
