I happened to have 17x9 wheels with 26" tall bias ply tires from my last car that mounted up nicely. Bias ply front tires shaved 10lbs per wheel versus the radial skinnies I had on the fronts. Front wheel/tire combo is 26lbs are rears are around 42lbs (wheels are just some old chrome bullets). The shorter wheel height helps as long as you have enough tire to hook.Well don't fret. My best was 11.2x @ 125 mph with my 17 manual GT. Passenger seat in. 91 octane tune but using 100 octane race gas. Just added 4 degrees globally so around 28.5 total. I think a smaller rear tire & better clutch will get me a 10.9x. Current tires are 28" x 11.5" rear.
OP: congrats!
Thanks. Yeah, our local 1/4 mile strip closes for good at the end of March and I don't street race so I won't have a ton of motivation to continue down the performance mod path. I'm happy with the current power. I have a few minor chassis mods planned but overall, I just plan to enjoy the car and rack up those smiles per mile.Enjoy! Great job. Just remember the chase never ends well so you may want to decide when enough is enough.
I've heard stories of them breaking near stock power and holding up for a while so it can vary. From what I have read and seen, they hold up better (like many things) if you don't wheel hop and if you run a rear tire that can soften the hit on the launch like a bias ply. I run bis ply front and rear tires at the track. The autos seem to break more due to the driver side tapering down a bit. I only have 5 passes on the e85 tune (10 track passes total on the car, 9 on bias ply rear tire) and haven't really gotten into it on the street much on the Nitto 555r2 daily tires from a dig.How do the stock half shafts hold up on a e85 tuned car?
This past spring, car was tuned by Lund for E85. I normally run an NT05 out back, but borrowed a set of slicks to use a few times, at the track this summer. Launching that hot, sticky slick, at the line, made a HUGE difference. But in the back of my head, I was worried about hooking up too much and snap shafts. They held up just fine. Granted, I held back a tiny bit knowing that I didn’t want to take a flatbed tow home that day. LolHow do the stock half shafts hold up on a e85 tuned car?
Last racing season I upgraded the drivers side axle to the GT350 axle(It’s thicker)….made 51 1/4 mile passes with zero issues. Ran a best of 11.18 at 126mph. I’m tuned on E85. For the up coming season, I just upgraded to the G-Force Renegade axle’s ($1800) so I should never have to worry about them again. How do the stock half shafts hold up on a e85 tuned car?
