Dry brakes can squeal. So putting grease on both sides of the plates should prevent that. I usually apply a thin film of grease between the pads and plates, and then use what little is left on my hand (or glove) to put some on the circles imprinted by the pistons. This way the most exposed side of the plate stays dry from grease so as not to collect dirt.Today I started installing my new red powder coated 6-piston Brembos. I found it worrisome that the written instructions from Ford Performance said to put the brake lube on the back of the pads underneath the metal backing plates. Every video I’ve seen says to put it on top of the metal backing plates. Just to be safe, I put a little Never Seize on top of the plates.
I found it fb market place in Atl. I got it for $400., and its new. Right place at the right time!
Had a similar issue when I tried to put the line on the passenger front. Couldn’t get it to thread in the hardline. Brake fluid everywhere. Gave up. My Steeda lines now sit on a shelf in a ziplock bag.Installed my Brembos. Finally.
The threads on the bolt from the brake hardline to the new steel braided lines I installed were marred from the factory (passenger side required a wrench for the entire process, driver side I used a wrench to loosen it and it spun free the rest of the way). It wouldn’t seat into the braided line, so once I realized what happened I had to hold the fluid from dumping out and hold the bolt while I filed it back to working order… An hour job turned into a three hour job.
I learned to put it underneath them, so the method Ford is saying. That's only because if you put them on the top side, it's more likely dirt and gunk can collect on the grease and stop the pad's ability to slide on its edges.
