Regarding the shifter recall. I am not going to worry about the shifter recall. Too much chance for the dealer to mess up the interior and I am not going to be the ginny pig. For daily driving and occasional spirited driving it is not necessary according to my dealer. It is a B rating recall not a A rated recall which the dealer would have to do the change. The recall is good for the life of the car, so screw it. If I have a problem then I will worry about it.

Just had mine done. No mess, no fuss. It was a very positive experience. The tech introduced himself and took me out to the service garage where my Shelby was on the lift. He talked me through the procedure and particularly the underside work (where I had opportunity to see my few splitter underside scrapes were minimal at most). He was enthusiastic about the car and seemed eager to do the service work. He is a BOSS 302 owner and invited me to join him and a few local Mustang buddies for their bi-weekly breakfast meet up. (Did someone say breakfast!??? I am IN). So it was a very positive experience and just over 2 hours with the oil change. The car was immaculate and not as much as a fingerprint remained after the service.

Although I know the new shifter was really to update the reverse lockout, it felt crisp and more robust than the original (which I had no issues with). I can say the left side stop of the shifter gate does feel more solid. :like:
I would do this recall if my dealer had the know how and passion that yours does...my first oil change the bastards did not clean all the run off. Oil drops all over my garage floor and I AM SURE ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE AS WELL! As soon as I can lift it I will clean it myself....it sux that some techs are lazy and could care a less...pisses me off. I did not have faith that they would not F up the job...I will try another dealership I guess.

It hurts to see that they stained your seat man!! This is what I mean, carelessness !!!

how is it that none of these service departments think to put a plastic seat cover over the seats as soon as the car comes into the shop!?!!?!?

Randy, did the stain come out ?
Im glad you already have them lined up for a replacement seat cover if the stain doesn’t come out.
You know, believe it or not, the detail guy got it out. I went over it lightly with the shop vac and hit it with a flashlight and a magnifying glass - couldn't see anything.

So, funny thing, I watched them put the plastic cover on the driver's seat. "Not the other side?" I asked. "Oh, no! They don't need to be over there!"

Both sides next time.

Im so glad to hear they got the stain out !!!!!

last thing you needed is to have them swap the seat cover and screw something else in the process.

My dealer puts plastic over seat, paper floor mats and wraps the steering wheel.

Just FYI

I thought the recall is good until 2024.

I think the dealer that told him the recall was good for the life of the car is full of shit. Or they don’t know what they are talking about.

the letter I received in the mail from Ford says I have until 2022 to get the work done.

It is printed right on the FSA. Program Terms: available until Feb 13, 2022 with no mileage limit for the program.

100% correct on the date! Just double checked my letter.

I edited my previous post to reflect that. Thanks for clearing it up.

Actual recalls are valid for the life of the car.

This isn't a recall, it's what Ford's calling a Field Service Action as it appears they're blaming aggressive shifting as the root cause as opposed to an improperly designed or manufactured component.

Recalls are required by NHTSA. The FSA is Ford's attempt to correct the issue before a Recall is issued by the Feds. All manufacturers have a similar programs (technical advisories, technical service advisory - or whatever they choose to call it). By offering the FSA Ford can mitigate issues being reported to the NHTSA by consumers. Ultimately, a Recall can still happen. A Recall must be performed by the manufacturer for the life of the car and to any subsequent owners. A vehicle cannot be legally sold by a dealer with an outstanding Recall. However, they can, legally sell a car with an open FSA. It just would be good practice to sell a car (especially new or CPO) with an FSA completed.

Ford knew there was an issue with the shifter before the model year was built out and delivered. Some cars were held up from delivery awaiting the new shifter (along with the steering wheel, stripes, etc). Still some cars were delivered. They may not have even corrected the issue and just decided to deliver the built GT350s 'as is' and likely Ford decided they would circle back with the FSA. That tells me they knew of the defect from the parts manufacturer before any consumers reported issues.
