I think they designed it that way to avoid wide body kit when they go for the ZO6 and ZR1 versions a 335’s or even 355’s can fit in there. It does look weird i agree. The wheels overall look little out of place on this car especially with the black rims.
That's my assumption as well.. but GM never had an issue before doing the wide body for the hi-po versions.

the guy looked like he wasn’t really attacking the track. Seemed to be just for seeing the car move and hearing the engine (which wasn’t that exciting). The car DOES impress by its flatness and stability on rough portions of pavement. That was a pretty easygoing track though.
From the Jalopnik post on the video:

"Now, before the armchair driver coaching begins, a few caveats. These are Matt’s first sighting laps at Thunderhill West and his first time in the car. They are not timed, they are not flat out, not every shift is run to redline, not every line is perfect. Matt also doesn’t speak, so don’t expect this to be any sort of review. But the video does let you listen to the LT2 V8 for a few minutes, which should be worth your time:"

Driving impressions are embargoed until October 16th. So in about 2 weeks there should be a lot more info out about the C8

Does sound a bit disappointing. My NPP exhaust was more aggressive than that. But yeah, those shifts are fast.

I really dislike how tucked in the rear wheel is / bulbous rear fender. The front 3/4 shots always show that and my eye goes straight to how that rear wheel is hiding in there. It's the one thing that kills the design for me. Hopefully it's better in person.
Its probably to meet euro 4 emissions. But in all honesty its an exhaust system borla will solve that...

Literally will get solved by a 100.00 set of wheel spacers... Y'all are bitching over lliterally nothing...

That jives with what I saw.

Nothing to see here. The car starts, drives, and looks pretty good doing it. Needs some sound help though.

We will see what the various tiers do later.

Telling someone to turn to aftermarket solutions does noting to alleviate what's disliked about a factory product.
Yeah.. But those arguments are silly... Thats basically saying the deciding factor to buy a 100k dollar sports car is how the factory wheels look on it... Really...

The same factory wheels you're going to have to replace immediately anyway because its a GM... and their factory wheels always crack...

The sound argument is also silly... These cars are being designed to sell globally, as of such they have to meet stricter noise regulations of euro 4... Exhaust is also the first thing everyone changes. Why should GM put engineering time and budget into making a USDM only exhaust system that they know their owners are gonna toss in the trash within a month of purchase...

It makes more sense to let the aftermarket worry about it. And even charge some brands like borla a percentage so they can have the "factory authorized" sticker on the box for people affraid of voiding the warranty

I'm not doubting it was painted. I was pretty sure you could feel the "edge" or more accurately the flow of clear transitioning from the stripe and the rest of the panel. Some members here were hoping it would be undetectable but I didn't see how that was possible without putting 3 times the clear and sanding the part over the stripe to the same level as the rest of the panel and did not think that was practical not to mention risking having to start over.
For the $10,000 they charge, they should be doing that.

*60k sports car. And not the deciding factor, just pointing out a subjective look that I don't like. And wheels cracking? I think I vaguely remember hearing something about the c5 or c6 having an issue but nothing lately. 'Wheels always crack' is the same level of argument as 'all coyote engines tick / rattle' and 'all voodoos consume oil'.

Chevy is not known for their exhausts on their new trucks, pony cars, or sports cars. They seem to go with a quieter exhaust, especially on their vettes due to the obvious demographic. They are getting better. The 1LE I tested sounded pretty good down low and had a very good active exhaust.

I got you man. Just saying lets not lose sight of the big picture. You're still getting a hell of a car.

I seriously doubt its gonna be 60k. They're gonna have "dealer markups" and option the shit out of it so it's gonna run you 100k, with warranties etc. You might get one in the 80s out the door

If you got one at 60k it would be the deal of the century for what you're getting.

There is a good chance this car will maul 911 turbos

I can order a C8 at MSRP today. My friend actually did. Options obviously will cost, but you know what you're signing up for.

Yeah I think it's totally worth it. The only thing id be warry of is the long term maintenance. With mid engine alot of times to do anything it's easier to drop the rear subframe and pull everything out. Or lift the body off.

Stuff like a clutch job, ac compressor, or oil pump and belts is gonna be ridiculous.
.
I wouldn't be surprised if u paid 3x as much for the same maintenance job over the older front engined vettes.

It might be something you want to consider and id just go ahead and max out the warranty.

Id also get a torsen diff if they offer it as an option

Same here, i can order one for msrp. It all depends on where you are. I m in the Chicago area and the dealers don’t charge above msrp. Small towns away from big cities and civilization charges arm and leg for cars like these. The car becomes so rare and unique in those locations that the dealers wait for the bait to come. I always recommend traveling for car shopping. The best part will be driving that new baby on the way home after picking it up.

I think I read some snippet that said the took belt changes and general maintenance into account when they designed the engine bay of the C8. Although couldn't find anything about belts on a quick google search, it looks like they at least have cutouts in the underbody aero panels for the oil filter and drain plugs. But knowing most auto manufacturers the cutouts will be positioned just right to let the oil drain on top of the panel...

The engine bay will get a lot tighter if/when the DOHC 5.5l twin turbo gets stuffed in there.
