This car is making about 600. We did not install the blower so we cant verify that piece but it was throwing random codes when it came in. Check out the slop in stock timing gear.

Don't bounce off a limiter in Gen2 & Gen3.. There are plenty of stock 800rw cars running around now to know it's not as big of an issue anymore.

We always post up the one that breaks out of the hundreds, thousands of cars NOT running them. I get it, one breaking is good for business....old news.

I mean I get all the hate about not wanting to spend the money on a billet piece, but I'd never run a bunch of power without it. When my crank snout cracked it had the side affect of beating the snot out of the timing gear - but the MMR piece held together preventing catastrophic failure on my last 170mph pass. I know most don't track their cars but I think anyone that races would be crazy not to get the billet one in there.

My cars been boosted since since 12k miles, I just rolled over 30k. 650 wheel the majority of its life and 800 wheel for the last 3k miles. My buddys 2018 gen5 whipple A10 car imploaded the opg and ruined the engine at the track with less than 5k miles on the car. Scared me into doing it, went with the VMP OPG and crank sprocket with an ARP crank bolt. Did it myself, not a bad job just alot.

When the snout of my crankshaft broke at 12,800 miles , I was surprised how well the MMR timing gear held up. I ended up going with an aluminator crate engine which now includes upgraded oil pump gears and crank sprocket. I'm starting to think the crankshafts for 2015-2017 might have had manufacturing issues and might be more prone to failure. Interesting that Ford went with an improved crankshaft for 2018 and 2019. From my count there has been at least 7 forum members who have snapped their crankshafts so far.

And some more...moral of the story is that even if you upgrade the crank sprocket, it still wont save you from the snapping the crank. We used the borscope to take a look inside...valves whacked pistons pretty hard. Scary thing is that this happened while cruising in 6th gear at about 2,000 rpm....totally out of the blue.

Are you sure on the CS?
I bough a couple of months ago a new Aluminator (Crate) (same issue as yours with 10,000 miles) but didn’t found any info on the CS just the CJ oil pump on the parts description.

I called Ford Performance directly and had asked before ordering the motor. I was told they started to do the crank gear along with the oil pump gear even though they don't list it within the product description. I had suggested they updated their description as many people would find that useful.

Really!
Thanks!
That would save me from opening up the engine.
I haven’t install mine, so I’ll call to make sure about it.

Stay off the rev limiter and quit taking the car to 8200 rpm on a stock bottom end. Seems pretty obvious to me how to keep them alive.

Crank sproket in original FB video seems like a defective Ford part... wallowed out keyway? Who knows.

The guy I spoke to at Ford Performance instilled enough confidence in me that I went ahead and had the new motor dropped in without opening it up to fact check....lol

The common theme on 99% of the crank failures is an aftermarket balancer. I think a few have failed with stock balancers but most have aftermarket ones. I am not 100%confident that OPG and timing gears are needed but I have a hard time figuring out why you would risk not adding them since the cost is low and the job is not too involved.

Cheap piece of mind. I did em. 6-10 grand to boost your car. Not including install. 1-3 grand for a fuel system. 400 bucks for the sprocket and pump gear.
