Let's talk about the C8 vs the GT500

I'm waiting until (at least) '21. Not a fan of taking 1 step back even if going 2 steps forward. For how I will use the car, it needs adaptive cruise. For reasons I don't understand, the '20 does not have the option.

That's probably not a bad idea given this is the first year of a major ground-up redesign that will likely need a year or two to work all the bugs out.

I can't see the Z51 being all that much more expensive vs the C7.

So in short... nothing too different. If anything, you got more on the C7. The C8 doesn't get unique rims, just tires. C8 gets a new cooling loop, but doesn't get a unique dry sump oiling system (standard on all C8s now) and the C7 also had a transmission and differential cooler added on Z51. The C8 has new seats it sounds like, and that's the only unique thing.

I mentioned before (in this thread or another C8 thread) that that's what I did with the S550 and it worked out well, so far.

I'm also thinking that after a few years, there may be some used ones out there, and if Corvette history holds, the value may drop enough to make those pretty good deals.

If its ~$10k it should include a LOT of stuff the '19 ~$5k Z51 package doesn't include, particularly since the '19 Z51 includes dry sump which is standard on the C8.

New car, new pricing model

Heck, look at the GT Perf Pack option, it went from $2495 to $3995 and I __believe__ it kept the same options (with the exception of things like adding the 3.55 rear for autos), and that was just a "facelift" price increase.

Does it make sense to increase the cost based on what you get, as compared to previous years? No. Does GM think the market will be happy to pay $10K? Maybe!

I’m still not buying into the $10k claim yet until I see it officially, but I do now see that it will be more than today’s $5k. For $5k in C7, there is no tire change but there is for C8, since base C8 has All Seasons. I missed that when I was comparing the two packages. Adding tires and dropping dry sump from the package should not increase the price by $5k. Something like $7 - 7,500 would be more reasonable.

that has to do with suspension springs, not where you plant your keister. Think coil-over, so you can change the preload on the spring and thus the ride-height. Ohlins (and KW?) for example make such a preload collar for the rear suspension for the Mustang. Finally we can stop this idiocy of targeting 'droop' numbers by screwing around with spring length and in some cases rate.

Mag ride is an option that can be added to z51 models. It is not included unfortunately

Actually 40/60 or 45/55 is better in every way over 50/50 (braking, accelerating, cornering).

That's a blanket statement. every here of something called snap oversteer? And another thing, FE/RWD cars can be driven on the ragged edge pretty forgiving, whereas with ME/RWD cars you have to know exactly what you are doing, very unforgiving. Watch all the future youtube vids of c8's & snap oversteer on the street.

I don't think GM will be hesitant at all in marking up the prices it's there new higher profit strategy. GM thinks they can put any price they want and the car happy public buy all they can make that's what they believed about the 6gen camaro and the strategy worked really well for them.

I'm not completely sold on the C8 yet. Not too crazy about the rear end and I really dislike the interior.
Don't like the old school square Borla exhaust tips and that interior,.....not feeling it. The steering wheel looks stupid to me and I don't like that center control strip.
