I looked at the car yesterday and was already dissapointed in the work. Connectors had oil and grease, clips were missing. Locations were the harness plastic anchors go into painted parts were scratched during removal. There was slight pooling of fluids all over. They had to order another radiator because it seems they accidentally broke the one on the car during the process. I would not want to keep this thing as is, but I don't have a choice here. When I pick it up, I will try to detail and clean the engine bay with DI water to see if I can at least make an improvement.
Sadly, they can’t be this invasive without leaving a HUGE trail. Mine smelled like a vat of oil when i got it back.

I guess it depends on the competence of the dealer. I had a long block swapped into my 05’ 330i ZHP under warranty because of a cylinder out of round factory defect and for what was worth I could not tell anybody has been in that engine bay (and I am quite picky with things car related). So it definitely is possible to do a swap at a dealer correctly and with care.

Yes, but we are talking about people incapable of following the 5 minute instructional video on splitter installation lol

You got me on that :). I wish I will never be in the position with the GT350 since all Ford dealers I know around have the splitter disease lol. I was talking to my SA and he mentioned about the high turnaround for mechanics at the dealer I go to. They come, they get trained and they. move on to the premium brands that pay better. Essentially very few good and experienced techs hang around. I cannot blame them either if you look at the rates they get paid at most places. There are ways to fix it but very few Ford dealerships are willing to do what is necessary.

Oh yeah, we are basically hoping we get the “car guy” in the group when we drop our cars off. Someone who understands our concerns and wants to ease our minds, see us smile when we get the vehicle back. It seems many places just don’t have that person. My dealership did, but he wasn’t a tech, he was a salesman lol

I've been following this thread for awhile, decided to make a profile. Thank you all for your knowledge its been extremely helpful! My 2017 GT350 didnt start consuming oil until roughly 18,000 miles! Yes, I daily drive it... ALOT, I love driving it. The majority of my driving is highway at 75-80MPH, but I never turn down a race if someone wants one. That said, I definitely have never beat on it but do have a good time on occasion. Actually just changed my rear tires are 22,000.
My story, Checked my oil levels religiously first 15,000 or so, never saw any consumption, thought I was out of the dark! Then somewhere around 18,000 (after a oil change at around 16,000) Zero oil on the dipstick. Brought it to the dealer, (service is great, techs are terrible) got an oil change went back to checking my oil every fill up or every 3 days. 18,000 - 20,000 = 1 quart ( I can live with that ) 20,000-21,000= 1 quart 21,000-22,400= 2 quarts .. a trend is setting. Currently in the oil consumption testing phase. I will fill you in on what happens next.

I wanted to share my story because I have read of many people thinking their engines are good to go! As was mine, then one day... the narrative changed.

Anyone notice if the engine swap went on their carfax?
My car consumes no oil at 5600 miles. I thought I had no worries because I have gone far enough that if I were to have had an issue it would have reared it’s ugly head by now. When I saw this thread I was bummed to learn I was not out of the woods as thought. I purchased my car prior to the beginning of this post. I had done an extensive amount of research before buying my car and I can say with 100% certainty that if this post existed then, I would have not bought my GT350. Unfortunately for those of us who ever decide to move on and sell our cars, this post is going to prove to be a huge detriment. It is a shame because this car is a blast.

No doubt many buyers will be deterred, but my hope is that this info will lead to the true flaw of the voodoo and provides a clear path fix. Before I bought my gt350 I was shopping for a c6 z06, when I learned about the dropped valve issue I was concerned, but researching further it was comforting to find out the flaw has been pinpointed and a clear fix exists($2k-$3k) job I believe. I talked to a Corvette specialist shop in my area and he went through everything that gets taken care of in that job and assured me that type of failure will not accure. If I hadn't stumbled upon the gt350 deal, I probably would have ended up with the zo6. I hope we too can be comforted in such a way one day.

If you did research you should have found out there were some motor issues. I knew about it and that's why I sprung for an extended warranty. My motor is consuming oil, started excessively at around 6000 miles, and will likely get replaced. So I get a brand new one - fine with me. I'd buy this car again in a heartbeat.

I did the research but not thorough enough. I watched numerous YouTube videos and cannot recall coming across any prior to my purchase regarding motor issues. In my defense this thread is by far the most extensive and thorough one that there is out there. It was just five months too late.

I got lucky and got a great tech. The engine/engine bay looked like new. But, as you said it smelled like oil and other various automotive fluids. I suspect it can’t be helped from being in a shop that long.

Update on my GT350. One month later. Mechanic was told by Ford to tear down the motor. They found the culprit was a cam cap. Mechanic waiting for Ford to agree to send a new long block. Oy .... I'm a Ford man but ... the Camaro ZL1 is looking better every day. Paying for a car I am not driving is pretty irritating.
You want to know what irritating is? A new ZL1 Camaro with a failed oil pump and waiting for 3 weeks while GM takes their sweet ass time deciding how they will approach the problem. I shit you not. They are having quite a few pump failures that GM refuses to discuss. I dumped the car due to insanely poor quality control and lousy customer service and focus. While the car was certainly fun, it is really focussed more for someone who wants a fancy car and cant be bothered with actually driving the car. Too many bells and whistles. Seat heaters, coolers, electronic parking brake, blah blah blah. If you want a great car to drive the GT350 is pretty pure without too many gizmos.

I hope you don’t have issues with your GT350 (for many reasons), but if you have to deal with Ford CS and quality control it may be deja vu for you unfortunately.

From a very respected engineer / engine builder about modern hi-perf engines and their tendency to consume oil:

"Across the board, engines are getting thirsty. GM's latest bulletin states 1 quart per 2000 miles is normal and expected and 1 quart in 500 miles on performance models. Manufacturers have gone to 2-3# oil controls and surface finishes we consider a mirror finish on bores for friction reduction for fuel economy, however with thinner oils and fuel dilution, it's no surprise we end up with problems."
