My guess is still 25-35 hp max. SUre everything is changed but Ford in my opinion isn't going to invest heavily in upgrading the coyote when its only 20 hp down but still heavier than the Camaro. It would need a lot more hp to cover the weight disadvantage. Everything is changed but we're talking such minor differences. The rods might be 1mm longer, pistons revised to bump compression and have the surface design altered a little due to di. Heads, manifolds and fuel rails.. obviously changed due to di. The camshaft profiles likely slightly revised to take advantage. Head gasket change due to bump in compression. Valve springs get a few extra lbs due to power bump. manifolds likely redesigned slightly for better flow cats moved closer for better emissions and still free up a few ponies. Timing chains strengthened slightly etc etc. The whole engine is all new but its just a minor revision to everything. "All new" sells cars.

My honest opinion will be a big focus on torque. I think ford has seen what aftermarket tuning can do and with di and revisions to everything I think they will pull some good torque out from the 5.0. this will allow some revised gearing in the mt82 and better fuel economy etc too. The car is heavy and torque will help and I believe it will be their focus.

Speculation:
New engine will have 456-475 hp. Most likely 460hp.

They're going to beat Camaro's current hp even if its just 1hp.

But also leave some power on the table for FRPP stage 1,2,3 tune & parts. And for engine longevity. After the engine has been tested for a few years, they'll bump up the hp a little for the S650.

There's always an extra easy 20+- hp on the table for tuners.

No way the coyote continues to the s650, by that time it will be over 10 years old, ford will need to have a new engine by then or risk falling way behind

That's kind of funny considering that GM just keeps rehashing pushrod engines forever...

The 2018MY coyote is a near total re-design. Do you really think they are going to totally redesign it for the 2021MY?

The engine revision will have more to do with efficiency than performance hence all the changes. Ford's biggest goal will always be to increase their total AVG MPG. I think they will still have a respective power increase but it's not going to be anything mind blowing like coming from a 2010 to a 2011. a 20-25HP increase would be pretty generous and achievable from the increased efficiency you gained from going to DI without sacrificing your MPG over the current V2 Coyote. So you gained a little power without losing MPG. It would put them at a number just right over the competition to sound more appealing.

They are doing a lot for the engine for just two more years. This thing is going to be around for a while. I wouldn't expect a new V8 to replace the 5.0 until the eighth gen cars if there is any at all, etc.... 465-470 is very good for the next couple of years.

Well if Ford's future visions are Mustangs with Hybrid technology I would say that V8's will not be their main focus for the S650, so it could very well still have the Coyote base platform with some upgrades. I wouldn't be investing big money into a V8 when most manufacturers are trying to get away from them.

Near total redesign? not even close. its a mid cycle refresh NOT anything close to a total redesign.

MY2018 is same body windshield back just new rear bumper new front clip and interior isnt even all that different besides the gauge cluster. New engine is really just a coyote with both direct injection and traditional port injection also.

Its NOT a total redesign hence its still a S550 mustang.......

You do realize the only carryover part from the 15-17 5.0 is the crank shaft, right? How is that not a total redesign? It's been discussed at length on this site about what all the new parts are and why they had to be redone due to DI/PI.

I think he is talking about the ex/in/terior/chassis. not sure what millhouse was referring to though. Engine would make sense since we are in an engine thread, lol.

Obviously I don't know but yes I would hope so, I'd rather see something with lower displacement and twin turbod. I'm just speculating but over a decade of the same engine and using it through 3 generations does not make sense to me.

Total engine redesigns are not a frequent occurrence. Expect the new DI coyote to be around for a good 5 years (minimum) or more with a few revisions.
