It seemed to me like the GT350 driver was being cautious and taking it easy and the M2 driver was pushing super hard to stay close. Then when the GT350 tires got warm and there were a couple longer straights - bye bye!

Since it was the instructors car why no instructions? This is how your approach the apex of the turn, this is where you start braking, this is where you start getting back on the power as you exit the turn, etc.? Once that Mustang opened up many car lengths of daylight the instructor should have paid more attention to actually sharing what ever knowledge of track driving he had. He also had no reason while instructing to drive at his limits to show the proper way through the course, you can go slower and still communicate the correct concepts.

Let's not forget that the instructors at these type events are volunteers, who put their life on the line and contribute their time to help others learn high performance driving. Realize, they are also there to do their own driving. Instruction occurs when they are in the right seat, as I mentioned earlier. I see nothing wrong with what that instructor was doing - he was actually magnanimous, like most are, giving a wave to the Camaro driver when he got the passing signal. Looks like he was driving, not in the instructor group, but maybe an advanced group. I've done it myself, many times. I have no problem with what he was doing at all, but do with the obviously ignorant fanboys that know jack-shit about this.

Ive done plenty of ride alongs with instructors but nothing like this. The number one rule of all track days Ive been it is it's not a damn race. You should be worrying about your car, your lines, your driving ability and not getting distracted by the other cars (or bikes) out there. And this instructor broke that rule right off the back by trying to chase down a faster car. He wasnt just driving around doing his thing and then came upon a slower car and over took them, it looks like he purposely let BOTH cars pass him so he could then attempt to run them down.

There is plenty to be learned in a ride along, in terms of lines, braking points, and the over all sensation of speed of a hot shoe vs a novice. What he was doing was none of the above.

Seemed like a pretty harmless video to me. One of the most fun aspects of a HPDE is finding someone of similar speed, trying to stick with them, watching their lines, etc.

This driver was very comfortable in his car, was at the limit but was smooth and in control. Seemed to be hitting apexes pretty consistently, wasn't out braking himself, etc. My ride along at the GT350 Track Attack was way more on the edge than this one.

It was a little funny to hear the student say "I'm not impressed with the power, I gotta tell ya". 365 is still a lot of power, but not the same as the 500 range where the Camaro and GT350 are sitting.

The GT350 did seem to be a bit off on the lines initially, but that was probably because he was looking in the mirrors until he put some distance on the BMW. Seemed like a good day at the track to me.

Did he wave at the Camaro as he passed by?
Look at, I believe 7:40, when the Camaro messes up because of the pressure being put on him/her by having the M2 up their butt.

Yes, it's drivers ed, but, when your in the advanced/instructor groups, which I think this was, it's about improving your skills. Nothing helps with this better than having someone better than you showing the way and applying the pressure. If you fold here, it show's a flaw in your ability. If you can't handle the heat...
