Here's a good Magneride thread for your review; also "VDM" is a common association with the Magneride zero or "re-zeroing" out the suspension. M6G member @kz offers quite a bit of advice in the below thread regarding Magneride and related lowering tech.

Basically any suspension work in Ford manual on magride equipped car tells you to zero ride height - for which technically you need a Ford diagnostic tool (IDS).

I think I saw people reporting Forscan has that ability but I haven't used it for so long that I don't for sure - I am using a DSC Sport Controller (which replaces stock controller - VDM - Vehicle Dynamics Module) and it has it's own software with ride height reset capability.

Just for clarity, does 'suspension work' mean anything involving altering the ride height, or does it mean any kind of work full stop ?

For instance, my MR car has recently had a lot of bits removed (the diff came out) and then the same items replaced - do I need to zero the ride height ?

Cheers,

I'll check when I am back at home but basically anything called for that from what I remember - spring replacement for example (stock to stock) - so any time you unbolt a control arm or a camber / toe link I think.

Lower control arm replacement instructions :

17. If equipped with dynamic suspension, calibrate the suspension system. Connect the scan tool and carry out the
Ride Height Calibration routine. Follow the scan tool directions.

But appears I was wrong and this seems the only component that calls for re-calibration.
But if you are changing ride height, you will need to re-set it obviously.

Great info - thank you :like:

I wonder if lower control arm replacement requires a reset due to potential casting and machining tolerances for the ride height sensor mount ?

As long as you're not changing ride height, it's probably not that big of a deal. Like KZ said, it's pretty easy with the DSC. I should check in ForScan, though. I've never really poked around the stock VDM. I'll make that a weekend project.

So I installed the springs and sway bars from the Ford M-9602-M kit. (Have a PP2 so didn’t need the calibration.) Lowered the car about 1/2”. Instructions don’t mention anything about recalibrating ride height, figure if it was required, Ford would mention it. Car handles just fine, no issues.
