Similar here.
Your probably right, but in her defense and mine, at the time the she charmed her way into the new vehicle the kids were still at home so there wasn't much disposable income available to have multiple vehicles. Then on Feb 11, 2017 the last one moved out, two days later I bought the mustang.
Similar situation here. Youngest boy graduated from college in May, oldest one got married Labor day weekend. My b-day was the following weekend. 3 day later... BAM! Wife originally wanted me to wait and get some other things done first, then she said "You put us (the fam) first for the last 26 years. Buy the damn car."

Good on you. So now its your turn. Don't make excuses for her. Sounds like you're feeling a bit guilty IMHO for thinking about yourself for the first time in decades of giving her and the kids the shirt off your back. Now its your turn. Enjoy it brother! You've earned it. It doesn't have to turn into a mid-life crisis -- if you get the meaning -- but within moderation enjoy it.

My wife LOVES my Stang and EVERYTHING about it. Usually when I bring home a new car, after her approval she just checks it out and wants to take a ride. Not this time. As soon as she got home she ordered the keys and she drove me for a few miles with a smile on her face the whole time. She was even driving fast and normally never goes over the speed limit or lets me get on it when she's in the car.
This is our 3rd Mustang, 1st fast one, Ecoboost.

I had a 97 Mitsubishi 3000 GT Vr4 that I purchased early in my marriage. Great car but it was using oil and everything needed to fix it was expensive and getting difficult to find. Got new car fever when I saw the S550 Mustang body. Loved the 5.0 and the IRS. So I placed an order for one. I advertised my Vr4 and sold it to a fellow in Las Vegas for a nice price. I told my wife about selling the Vr4 and the first thing she said was, good, you don't need three cars and don't be buying another one. Oops, but I didn't tell her I had already ordered a 17 Mustang. As time was getting closer to the Mustang showing up I was trying to figure out how am I going to tell her. Decided that forgiveness would be better than asking for permission. My Mustang came in, I picked it up on a Wednesday during the day when she was at school and put it in my garage. (I have my own shop and two car garage.) Now how am I going to tell her about this new car. Come Friday I normally take her to dinner so I decided that was the time to let her know. Friday night I told her I was going to go get the car ready to go to dinner and she should come out in a few minutes. I pull the Ruby Red Mustang out of the garage and await her coming to my garage area. The look on her face said I was in trouble. That was the quietest dinner we have ever had. Doghouse again. The following Tuesday was her night to feed us and she said she didn't want to cook so let's go somewhere, her treat. I pull my Ford Escape out to drive not wanting to make things any worse. When she got to the car, she asked me why I wasn't driving the Mustang. She forgave me pretty quickly and loves the Mustang. I drive it like a little old lady with her in the car. Don't want to scare her. She can drive a stick so I have offered her the keys to the Mustang but she has not taken me up on driving it yet. I have not told her all the things I have done and spent money for on this Mustang. I have my own business so I don't have to use joint money. That she would not understand. We live in MN. She has asked me why I would buy a second car that I can only drive 6-7 months out of the year. I have a 68 Mustang parked in my garage.

My experience in life is that most women give no shits about cars and my wife is no exception.

If they do care about cars, they are either that ultra rare car woman or they are gold digging.

My wife calls my 68 Mustang "loud and obnoxious" and "environmentally unfriendly." Yes, it is all those things. So far she has NOT said such things about my 17 Mustang even after I took out the resonator and put in an X pipe.

My experience is a little opposite from many of these threads. My wife always wanted a 65 mustang and I was looking around for nice one with a few some upgrades to make it nicer for day to day driving. With her 40th birthday around the corner, I saw the updates to the 2018, and looked like perfect to car for day to day around town with the kids. She required the 5.0, picked out the color, and I made sure it had the performance pack. She loves it. Down side is I am pretty much never allowed to drive it as it is her car. Oh well, just need to figure out my replacement car so I can get something really fun to drive.

The wife doesn't like the car, but my two daughters have been fighting over who gets it when I'm gone, they both love the color. I told them that whoever learns how to drive a manual first gets it, and they have to prove to me they know how to drive it and they are not learning on my car.

In Nov '17 when I bought my car, my wife hated it and resented the hell outta the fact that I had a nice/fast car. She was jealous of the time I spent in the garage doing the mods in my sig, and could barely keep from gagging (which also describes our sex life in some regards) during the two times we actually went for a drive in it together and couldn't wait for the experience to be over.

The good news is, as of last Thursday, she is now my EX-wife!!!!

My wife thinks she can drive a manual. She can’t even drive an automatic properly. On rare occasions I have graciously let her drive a short distance with me in the car. That is a very high risk activity

My wife has been encouraging me to pull this trigger for the past two years. Finally, after a rough year loosing my dad I decided enough waiting. I'm so excited for it, it's going to be (hopefully) a great 2019. I do wish he could have seen it, and given me crap for getting it. I would have enjoyed his reaction in the passenger seat. If he would have even let that happen. haha!

My wife is not against performance vehicles, she at one point wanted a CTS-V, but I thinks she may have shifted to wanting a Subsubarurbarubararu WRX STI. But I can respect that. I just need to get back onto trying to teach her how to drive stick. We'll see...

Maybe you just didn't encourage and help her overcome the gag reflex enough.

My wife doesn't drive our GT much, but she likes it and actually signed off on me buying two Mustangs within two years. We bought a 2012 V6 in 2016, then upgraded to a 2016 GT last May.

She basically said "If it makes you happy, go for it" on both purchases.

On a side note, when we bought the first one, my daughter, who was 9 at the time, practically broke into tears when it looked like we might buy a 2015 Camaro instead. Still not sure why she was so adamant about the Mustang, but she dug her heels in for it.

When we locked down the final terms of the purchase at the dealer, we let her make the final "yes or no" call on the deal and do the handshake with the salesman. Which probably annoyed the guy, but who cares.

The wife has some skill and used to go with me to bmw club events and drive my old Z4m. While she is German and loves any German car, she HATES my mustang. Even though she got my 14 e550 to replace her SUV she complains every time she hears it fire up. Has heard me talk about mustangs through 27 years and has been in it once. That’s ok by me and figure after putting two kids through school and the third kid half way there along with helping her start a business last year I can buy whatever the F*** I want. Showed her a pic this weekend of the Raptor and she just looked at me like I was crazy. The deals that can be had on the 18’s are pretty awesome and if she only knew how close I am to adding one to the stable she would lose her mind. This time I’m just going to show up in it and say ‘would you like to go for a ride?’
