Winter tires

I just moved my daughter up to Montana. She has never had to worry about cold weather driving due to the fact she has spent most of her life in SoCal. Here is my question. Can she drive from the cold in Montana to SoCal with winter tires? The delta in temps would range from the single digits in Montana to the mid 80 driving thru the Nevada and SoCal deserts

Yes but they’d wear out quicker in warmer temps. Not as good in rain either. Otherwise will be fine.

She'll be completely fine. I drove on winter tires in 70F+, they're soft in these temperatures but that's about it.

As for the wear, it's an urban legend.

I wouldn't use a single track session and visual inspection as definitive proof either way.

I used to own single set of wheels and two sets of tires - taking a while to get them switched over (that was ~16 years ago). No measurable wear from a driving in a warm weather for months either.
Person at work drove FR-S with winters on all year round (don't ask why) - including 90-100F days. Did not measure tread depth obviously but year later they looked visually fine.

Bottom line to answer OP's question - absolutely nothing to worry about.

Michelin Xi3 handles warm temps better than a blizzak WS

I'm just very data driven, I'd want to see multiple brands and millions of recorded miles. You know, science.

My neighbor daily drove the same Xi3 tires on a VW for like 4 years. I’m pretty sure the car was traded in still on snow tires.

To each his own. Some people couldn’t be bothered to switch over.

I prefer to have tires meant for driving in snow in the winter and all season/summer tires for the 3 other seasons. I’ve stretched the life of winter tires to 9 winters.
