Will the GT500 Have a DCT

While certainly not the smartest guy in the room, I suggested in a 8/24/17 post that the next GT500 may only be offered with an automatic.
A6, A10, DCT...I didn’t know.
It just seemed like common sense.

I had a DCT in an M3 and couldn't get rid of the car fast enough mostly because of the transmission.

While not interested in a new GT500 I would certainly prefer their new 10 speed auto unless the DCT has improved dramatically over the last few years.

I'm not interested in a car with a DCT either. I've driven some high end cars with DCT and while the cars were fast - I didn't enjoy driving them. I am excited to see the reviews and find out how quick it is, though. I'm sure the people who like DCTs will love the GT500.

A DCT would add substantial costs to the GT500 one would think. It could be similar to the one used in the GT, but they are only producing 250ish a year, so not much in development cost to share. IMO there wont be a DCT option unless you want a 85K base price.

Ford GT uses a Getrag with up to 750Nm, the GT500 will use a Tremec with up to 900Nm.

It’s the same one that the ME Corvette will use as well some other cars.

It’s new for Ford, but not a new DCT.

But only good for 665 ft lbs. I guess that's why its not in the new ZR1. I hope the new 500 is higher than that.

I am not hung up on a manual and want a high perf auto, but DCTs suck, esp from a standing/slow start. Once moving, they are very fast and rev matching. Some are so fast (ie Ferarri), that they seem a bit clunky (ie slam into gear so fast it lurches the car forward). I really thought I would like them, but they are not there yet for me. FWIW

I'd rather them put the new 10-speed in than the DCT. It seems to do a pretty good job for the Camaro ZL1.
I mean, Ford doesn't even have any DCT cars besides the Ford GT, do they? What would be the benefit of using a DCT over the new 10-speed which is supposedly capable of out shifting Porsche's PDK?

I'm really hoping to get "lightly used" 2019/2020 GT500 in 3-ish years through the magic of depreciation. Though I wonder how it will be for a DD car :lol:

doubtful a low 700hp 5.2L will make more than 665lb/ft.

Lets keep our expectations on the low 600’s for torque and low-mid 700’s for HP

665Ft/Lbs @ What weight? There is more to the rating then just the Ft/lbs.

The only DCT I ever drove was a mp4-12c and as much as I love a manual, I think I'd have zero issues with a 700+ hp fat power band S550 with DCT. I don't think Ford will screw up DCT in this car. I keep hearing there is "more going on then suspected" with this car. I'm beginning wonder if its a DCT and a special electronic diff coupled with a killer stability/traction package. All the other possibilities seem pretty far fetched.

That’s pretty accurate I think. We have HUD is likely (finally). Everything beyond that from me is total speculation. I do think the rear is going to be widened just a bit to get 335 tires.

Every time someone talks about transmission capacity they always zero in on one number and completely ignore all other important information about it. It's like trying to figure out how fast a car would be by looking at its horsepower number and completely ignoring how much the car weighs.

As jjw mentioned, transmission torque capacity is based on a max vehicle weight. The MT-82 for example was 'rated' at 369ft-lbs at approx 3,000-4,500kg GVWR which is substantially higher than the actual mustang weight and thus torque capacity.
