Why doesn't the Mustang have keypad code entry?

You guys do know that modern Ford/Lincoln “keypad” is completely invisible unless you’re touching it, right? :p
But why would I touch it? I still have to touch the door handle and doing that unlocks the door.

Because you locked the keys and your other personal belongings in your car for safe keeping. ie: you parked your car somewhere that you were going jogging, boating, swimming, hiking, streaking, flash mob dance in spandex, etc. You then can unlock your car via the keypad code without the need of a key or fob.

I personally have no use for this, my comment was on the notion of it looking “outdated” in someway when the majority of Ford/Lincoln owners who have it don’t even know it exists due to it being completely invisible and integrated into one of the window pillars.

Still don't need it. I can mimic Chuck Norris' voice perfectly. I just tell any car to unlock.....or else.

Facial recognition maybe...
I know this reply I quoted is old, but........
A guy on my Harley forum was told that he kept 'butt-dialing' his friend.

Told his friend; "I can't be butt-dialing you, my phone is in facial recognition"..............:cwl:

My gosh, reading this I can't believe people do not understand the tremendous value to the keypad. I could easily be incorporated into a 5 button system near where the trunk button is. I use mine ALL the time. If you take your car somewhere and you want to lock EVERYTHING in it, no problem. I use mine on the Explorer all the time. Same with it on my Taurus SHO, F150 etc.
If you are traveling with another person (wife, kid, buddy, etc) all you have to do is tell them the code and they can get into the car, use the fob and drive it or get stuff out.
I believe you could get the door code button device and stick it on the inside of the gas door possibly. I've thought about it many times. Might do it.

My Fusion and Edge both have it. I've found it to be very useful many, many times.
Obviously there's no place on my convertible that a keypad wouldn't look bad. And I really like the convenience of the keyless entry.
Still, in the back of my mind, I can't help believing that the key pad is a more secure system.

to criminals. Ford like the rest of Detroit hasn't the foggiest notion how to do security correctly. Then again BMW and VW also have just incredibly stupid screwups time and again. The automotive industry as a whole should never be trusted with security in anything it does.

Back in the day prior to key pad tech., you just took your key off your ring and secured it on your bathing suit draw string, making sure that was cinched tight, leaving the rest of your keys in the glove box or hidden under the seat. My 1987 Camaro Z28 I used to own functioned that way.

If the keypad was integrated and invisible in the B-pillar until touched I don't see why it would be a problem. Probably an occasional convenience to be used. I've never had it so I don't know what I'm missing.

That said - can you actually lock the key fob inside the car in a modern car? I don't think so, but I haven't checked on the Mustang. I suppose Ford could program it that if you lock the car with the pad specifically, buy putting in your PIN, then it could allow the car to lock with the fob inside. Otherwise, if you're using the door handle touch lock system, program it so it won't lock the fob inside.

I opted for the $1600 chip-implant-at-base-of-brain option (CIABOB). Opens and starts without a fob.

Swallow the fob. You'll always have it with you, and if you need remote start, you can use the app.
App? Just have someone punch you in the kidneys. That'll press the right 'buttons'. I'd hate to fetch the fob every 36 hrs, wipe it off and re-swallow it though. Can't taste very good the Nth time where N>=2.

I use the key pad often on the truck and my wife's car as I don't always carry a key fob, plus certain places I choose not to carry key's such as if we go to a theme park. I generally lock keys in the vehicle so I don't loose them on a roller coaster/water ride or something.

On my old S197 I added the wireless keypad below to the windshield wiper cowl and it worked well. It was out of sight until you came up on it and even then it blended well enough with the plastic cowl. I honestly hadn't though about it for this car as I don't drive it much currently but I get with the OP is talking about. Doesn't seem the same keypad I had will be compatible with vehicles that have the proximity key.

EDIT:

I wonder how the compatibility of this would be? I see 2020 mustang listed.

I had a Fusion that had the keypad built into the B-pillar. It was invisible until touched and worked great.

With all the incentives I recently bought a 2019 Ranger. It had the keypad as a $95 factory option. It looked like something from Pep Boys. I forgot to check it before leaving the dealership. When I checked it was completely dead. They use a non-replaceable battery and stick on with 3M tape. I removed it at the first wash. I found someone online who figured out how to open it up and replace the battery - did it and the battery lasted 8 days. Apparently there was a bad run of these. I would have taken a new one and sold it, but the dealer ended up refunding me the $95.

It would be convenient to lock the fob in the car sometimes, but I wouldn't want to count on that thing to always work.
