Revving at another car/driver . . .

"look at me"
"my car is louder than yours"
"wanna race?"
You just described very Lamborghini driver out there

Funny, there's a guy that lives near me that I pass going opposite direction on a nice curvy road on my commute home that must own some sort of dealership or something. He's always driving a different Lambo or <insert super car here> or even some Shelby's and he never revs as I pass him. We do wave now though because we've passed each other often enough, usually once very other week or so.

I had a Mustang follow me around a while yesterday around Woodbridge on and off I-95. He kept revving it every few seconds in the middle of a 4-lane interstate, at the off-ramp traffic light and well just all the damn time. Annoying as hell. And it was one of those ugly sounding exhaust pipes - not a good sound at all. It was pathetic how slow he was in the cloverleafs. I'd love to say I was out riding my bicycle but no, I was in the Camaro at the time.
If you were in the Camaro, are you sure it wasn't a horde of flies?

I have a Roush x-pipe and axle back and a couple of times have had folks roll down the window to ask me to rev it for ‘em. Yesterday in a parking lot, I passed a nice Challenger with a sick exhaust and custom wheels and we revved on each other. Normally in these parts we would park and shoot the shit for a few minutes. Such weird times.

We have a Lamborghini in our street (very out of character for my area !) and I’m pissed when he drives by quietly ... :frown: I think it’s ‘Corsa’ mode when it really sings ? :sunglasses:

Back on topic - Personally I liken reving the engine to pipping a horn - there’s polite toots for attention and then there’s full on fucktard mode when someone’s just being obnoxious.

Picking your time, tone and the company you are in mean everything :like:

I usually take it as a greeting. I usually fail to give it back because I am in an A10. I do miss my old Termi 6 speed for that reason.

I have noticed the passer-by revs as well. I thought it was because people saw the stripes and wanted to hear the Voo-Doo, or were just saying, "Hey there fellow Mustanger".

I don't do it to others unless asked. I have been in traffic and have had folks ask to hear it... if the situation permits, I will oblige.
The reason I don't instigate the rev on others is because I have had really loud Mustangs go by in traffic and I did not notice them (which is rare), and they reved next to me and scared the $hit out of me. I wasn't upset, just startled.... hoping a little poo didn't shoot out. I have the resonators removed, so mine is plenty loud.

Kinda reminds me of when a friend and I stopped at a light and a youngster pulls up next to us and started cycling his NOS system. My buddy's ride is an original AC Cobra. Light changes and it was over when we hit 2nd gear coasting to the next light. Simple wave always worked for me recognizing someone else ride.

Tap the paddle down 2-3 gears and hit the throttle. Enough to raise the front end a little and make some noise without slamming into the guy in front of you.
It is a good plan, but I am too slow on the draw. I could probably shift to neutral faster, but still not fast enough :)

For me it depends on the car. I love the sound of a V8 for sure but I can appreciate other types of cars and engines too. Especially some Euros or exotics. But the other night I was coming home with my girlfriend and I roll up on a 370Z at the stop light. This thing is brutal its got wide body flares likely made from garbage can lids and my GF asks what I think of it and my answer was ' an abomination". Of course he sees the Mustang and the revving starts ugh! And it doesn't sound good at all.

All I could think of was his poor mom that had raccoons going through her trash because he took the lids for his car:)

Revving can be for different reasons. If I downshift beside you, guess what, yep it's revving. It has been mentioned above the many reasons. I seem to get everybody wanting to race me, or maybe they just want to hear it. I had a Honda step on it at a light today, I didn't bite. He laughed at the next light. I let him have his fun and cruised on my way. On the other hand, I had a 392 Charger pull up to me at about 60 mph and floor it....little did he know, that is about my hook speed in 3rd gear...only a couple seconds to run away and leave him. I only exceeded the speed limit by 10 mph and no other vehicles on the road.

My interpretation since I started fooling with hotrods, could be a friend just cruising by and we would recognize the sounds of each others engines, someone unknown with a potentially hopped up car, someone with balls enough to really want to race, the jerks who thinks there cars the shit, and the ridiculous revs which at this day I prefer to say go and impress someone else who cares , it all has its own meaning kinda like when you recognize that ring on the phn and you know who it might be
