Stirring the pot, but why do people list their transmission?

Not really trying to be a dick, but I'm just curious when/why this became a thing like a decade ago.

If you're at a meet (and not in/around your car), and you're talking about what you drive, do you mention the transmission directly proceeding the year, make, model of what you have?

Which is weird, but no. I have yet to talk to a Camaro owner who is like, yo bro, Camaro SS 1LE 6MT (or 10A)... but I'd figure 25-33% of this board is like 2019 Mustang 3.9 i5tt w/ 6MT.

I mention my transmission so people know that my car is king ding-a-ling and that I can't shift a MANs-mission (Joking). But I feel like it started really becoming a thing with the 10R80/10L80's. Just something about the difference between the 10 speed auto and the 6 speed manual.

I have been to a few cars & coffees and shows in my day, and I have not once picked that up.. must be something new.

Driving a manual is becoming a rare skill, like anything else you'd put on your resume. I get plenty of amazing facial expressions when people look inside my car and see a stick, because hardly anybody in DFW knows how to drive one, and they're amazed I'm willing to drive one in this traffic.

Sorry to say, but with the way things are heading, itā€™s going to go the way of the dinosaurs! At least we got fuel from them!

Iā€™m happy I learned at a very early age how to drive a stick.. you are more connected to the car.. My older brother on the other hand.. if it doesnā€™t have a ā€œDā€ heā€™s lost! (Better for me, he wonā€™t ask to borrow my car)!

I won't even volunteer the year unless specifically asked. Although, in my experience, people seem more interested in the color and exhaust above all else.

I thought all they was concerned with at meets was your stance and how a car sounds...

Interesting question. I never really volunteer much info about the car at all....but I am usually asked two questions: What does the R750 badges stand for........and is it a manual? Of course ths is usually from non-Mustang owners.

I get the same. "Is it a V8? Manual?" is like the laundry list I get from everyone who asks about the car lol
