Instead of the cost of a new GT I was thinking of buying a used one and getting it supercharged. Would want an automatic and what gear, 3:15 or 3:55 ? Thought of a performance pak 2018-19. Or would a regular GT do ? If you were doing a build up what would you do ?
Thanks.

You don't need the PP (especially at the ridiculous asking price) unless you plan on tracking the car.

As far as what transmission and gearing, it comes down to what type of supercharger system would you be installing? A PD will work well with a manual car and 3.55 gearing, but an auto would probably be better matched with a centri setup.

Also depending on what type of driving you do, you might want to upgrade the engine/oil cooling and rear suspension (axles).

There are so many trade offs here.
The 15-17 cars have better gearing in the manual and it seems like there's less fragility in the six speed auto. But you're likely to have AC problems and other early year kinks. The 18-23s have glass cannon autos and near crippling manual gearing. I would probably vote for a 2017 non PP GT auto with 3.15s. No strut tower brace and more room to run the gears out.

I could make this argument in any direction. It’s a big bag of trade-offs. I do like the 2018 though, due to factory fluid damper.

I want the gen2 appearance, gen3 pcm controls/gdi/knock system, 10r speed with 6r toughness, gen2 compression ratio, gen3 fuel pump, gen1/3 head bolts, gen3 block, etc….

For Supercharger a regular GT will do just fine. Plenty of super charger options. PP won't make much of a difference on what FI you run (but a larger rad is nice)

As far as year...well, as I'm sure you will see everybody has an opinion. It's more like picking what icing you want on your cupcake. Whatever you pick you still have a nummy cupcake.

I'm currently eating a cupcake.

Oh that's a blast from the past 🫠 that's been gone for awhile though. It was also so long ago Cameras required Film and a physical photoAlbum. None I have digitized 🙃

At the time I didn't even know what I had it was left to me via probate. I didn't understand cars and needed a 4x4 for winter, so I sold pretty quickly.

Young and dumb 😒

There’s an S281 on BaT right now. Not quite the same as the S351 but the price is more palatable. The last few S351’s have gone for $70k+. Was originally a US car, now resides in Canada

I would want the torsen and the bigger radiator which comes with the Performance Pack. You're not paying much extra for the Performance Pack on a used car, just takes longer to shop for one I guess.

For a supercharged or turbo car you probably do want the automatic, but you probably don't want the 10 speed auto for a boosted car. They're locked down and you can't tune 'em IIRC

Since you're boosting, you don't really need to deal with the 18+ cars Direct Injection and the extra compression ratio and RPM doesn't really help you like they do on an NA car. You can compensate with boost.

Hows the durability with power adders? Are they holding up beyond GT500 power levels? (curious)
Good questions. I only have a sample size of two. My Whipple 2018 has 50k miles, all boosted, and the 10r has been flawless. I’m currently at 850-900 rwhp. My truck is probably 750 rwhp, also no issues. However, I do my own tuning and I use drag shifts but pull most of the torque on the shifts. The shifts happen so fast that you can’t even feel the torque cut. Some tuners don’t pull any torque for the shifts. So much of the reliability is in the turning.
