There are so many options to get on handheld tuners. I’m just curious of the pros and cons and a general consensus.

Hello. I am currently using the new Avid tuning device. It works very well if you are using a professional tuner to make the tune. You have to be careful and make sure the tuner you want to use can load through the Avid device. This device also allows you to monitor engine functions in real time during everyday driving. The draw back is pricing and tuner availability. It doesn't require a laptop.
A more universally accepted device would be one of the hp tuners mpvi devices. These require a laptop but most all tuners work with that platform. I would not recommend the RTD devices that most tuners try to sell you as they are very limited in their capabilities and lock you in to only loading what a tuner sends you and zero freedom to build your own tune if you want. Hope this helps

The MPVI is the same price (last I looked) and does a lot more. Better resale value if that matters.

I thought they were the same device lol. Upon reading on HP Tuners' site, I'm assuming tuners that use RTD can also use MPVI?

I don’t know the difference between the two.
The way I understand it is that if you plan to tune the car yourself then go with the MPVI3 but if you plan to go with your tuner go with the RTD. MPV3 has more features and access to more of the HP tuner software.

If you plan to tune your car yourself, then get PCMTec. Wengerd also uses that.

Mpv allows you to edit, write, read. Rtd allows you to read/write. Can't do any editing. Most people don't care to build their own tune. They just want a good working tune and never have to think about it again. Nothing wrong with the RTD.

Same price, might as well get the better features. Re-sale value down the road favors the MPVI.

This all day. The RTD also does not need a laptop. TDN app connects via bluetooth and works like a champ.

Latest RTD device in my humble opinion.

Haven't looked at this AVID thing yet so can't really compare those.

Im still on SCT but the tuner I am going with uses RTD/MPV. On their site it says you still need a laptop. Does the TDN app allow you to record logs and then send to tuner straight from your phone?
