In fairness, that place (on Long Island) had shut down its self-serve pumps for New Year's Eve -- extra 40 cents a gallon for full serve -- and charged an extra 20 cents a gallon for credit cards (I never carry cash any more). So that tank was artificially more expensive than it had to be. But still, it's always about a dollar spread between 87 octane and 93 octane.

That is crazy. I have not paid cash for cash in 14 years, or longer. I can get .03-.30 a gallon discount depending on how much the wife spends at the grocery store using my credit card.

Wow, That's crazy!

Our gas prices are fairly ridiculous, since our gas taxes are in the nations's top 5, but I am only seeing $.20 difference here between regular and premium.

The Chevron in my neighborhood is $2.75 for premium right now, and $2.55 for regular. That spread has held consistent for the 10 years that I have lived in this house.

Does anyone have a link documenting the 1% difference on the '15 Coyote? I ran across these specs for the '11 that indicate the difference in power when using 87 vs. 91. It was 402/412hp (2.5%) and 377/390tq (3%). Still pretty minor, but more than you're likely to gain from a catback or such.

FYI, the full article is a pretty good read.

We're at a $0.10 spread among brands, $2.399, $2.499 (mid), $2.599 (premium). It's been a 20 cent spread for a while now. So, only $0.20/gal more or $3 per fill x 60ish fills/year, approx $180/year difference.

First-time Mustang owner here. The online owner's manual recommends 87 Octane fuel for the EB and V6 engines. The V8 (which should be arriving shortly:clap2:) is not mentioned in the manual.
So my question is: What octane are you GT owners using?
Hey guys. This is the OP. Gee, I though I asked a simple question! LOL.
Love the variety of opinions, and even more, I love this forum!
Thanks to all.

Seriously; where are these places with 30 cents a gallon difference in regular vs. premium? On Wednesday, I filled up with premium -- $3.499 a gallon; regular at the same station was $2.519. What the hell?

Just another reason I will never live in a metro area.

I'd bet I could go on gas buddy.com and find a station within 10 miles of your location with a 30 cent spread. Problem is it might take you 3 to 4 hours to drive there.

The old city mouse and country mouse conundrum. ;)

For Jimmy…

Nearest station to me is 5 miles. Nearest 93 to me is 7.5 miles. Takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to drive there. I have NO idea how long it would take you to drive to this station.

Another thing people tend to forget about is WHERE exactly is that 1% loss at? Is it peak HP or HP across the band? I'm willing to bet that HP/TQ under the curve is less on 87 than 93 in most all driving situations. Knock can occur at about any load on an engine. Is the energy content of 93 lower, yes. Will I possibly get slightly worse mileage, yes. Will I suffer from knock retard as much as on 87, heck no.

Again I will say buy what you want. 93 octane will outperform 87 octane in the same 5.0 engine. Don't ask me where the point of diminishing returns is at though. I'll leave that for the engineers and hard core racers. :) Its all good. :D

91 Octane here locally is the highest we have.

I think there is one place about 15 minutes away from our shop that provides 100 octane

Jersey gas is notoriously cheaper than New York gas. When gas prices were higher, I used to sometimes drive into Jersey (even though it's forty five minutes each way from my job and tunnell tolls are like nine bucks) to get gas, because they could be more than a buck a gallon less.

Nearest station to my apartment is about two hundred feet. Within a mile there are probably two dozen stations. Prices vary wildly; I've seen stations across the street from each other with a thirty or forty cent spread, especially in industrial areas where companies will fill up at whichever station they have an account with. I don't pay too much attention to gas prices by and large. It was a bigger concern for me two cars ago when my income was half what it is now and I drove a terrible old Mercedes with a cracked manifold that only took premium and got 5-7 mpg.

I'm very surprised no one has mentioned the middle ground.
I run 89 octane, which I did with my 2006 GT.

I see that the 2015 GT is fine with 87 octane but I decided to stick with 89.
I figure its a little cheaper than premium and might get me a tiny bit of performance better than 87.

I am not wishing to debate the 87 vs. 93 octane ideology for the GT. What I would like to ask is those than run 93 octane, do you feel one brand of gasoline is better than another? (ie Shell, Cheveron, etc)

Lastly if you believe that 93 is the best, is non-ethonal "pure gasoline" even better? There are a few Sunoco stations in my area that sell it.

I tend to agree with the 93 octane camp, and am just looking for opinions within that circle. Thanks!!!!
