What Octane Fuel?

when I buy 93 octane I'm less concerned with the brand than how reputable the actual station is. I prefer stations owned by large concerns like refining companies or big box stores. Those are less likely to pull tricks like ordering "excess" regular and having the truck driver dump it in the premium tank.

I had my Mach One tuned to the max and I bought 93 octane that caused detonation before. I found out that the particular station was known to sell premium that wasn't really premium.

I am not wishing to debate the 87 vs. 93 octane ideology for the GT. What I would like to ask is those than run 93 octane, do you feel one brand of gasoline is better than another? (ie Shell, Cheveron, etc)

Lastly if you believe that 93 is the best, is non-ethonal "pure gasoline" even better? There are a few Sunoco stations in my area that sell it.

I tend to agree with the 93 octane camp, and am just looking for opinions within that circle. Thanks!!!!

Yup I use ethanol free 92 puregas. You can go on the pure gas web site to find non ethanol stations.

Interesting about the ethanol free gas. I have about 5-6 stations within 10-12 minutes of my house. Guess I am going to give this a try for my next few fill ups.

The octane is 90 vs. 93. Since I have no clue on this, do we expect worse performance on 90 ethanol free vs. 93 ethanol? I know gas mileage should go up based on what I have read.

In my experience sunoco gas is much better quality than shell. I can actually feel the car being quicker with sunoco gas... May just be the gas in my area but I definitely feel the difference...

pure gasoline would be preferred for me, but there isn't much available within an a couple hours drive. I exclusively use shell and will sometimes use bp if that's the only option. 93 only.

I also only use 91 Octane and above. My Acura TL requires 91 and above, so I am used to paying for it. Also with gas prices dropping, for now, it's not that big a deal. I also want the max performance from the engine. Also the car isn't a DD.

I like the additive package that Shell puts in their 93 octane. I've had cars perform better with Shell additives.

That said, Katie only gets 91. Every time.

I also prefer Shell. Maybe a placebo effect, but she sure does seem to run happier on Shell than if I stop by a Safeway or Arco.

I've noticed the difference between gasolines back in the day when I ran my '70 a lot more. I would always go out of my way to find an Amoco.

With a modern and new engine I've never noticed the slightest difference between anything I've put in the car.

91 octane here primarily because all the 87 and 89 contain ethanol.

Don't trust any article from someone that gets paid by advertisers.

Having said that, it makes sense that EcoBoost cars will do better with higher octane - at least in warm to hot weather. Not so sure about during winter.

Why don't you try it for yourself? I used to run higher octane when I first bought my 2011 GT. Then in the winter I realized I didn't need every HP, so I ran the cheaper fuel. With the 2015 I don't plan to run anything but 87.
