In fairness, that place (on Long Island) had shut down its self-serve pumps for New Year's Eve -- extra 40 cents a gallon for full serve -- and charged an extra 20 cents a gallon for credit cards (I never carry cash any more). So that tank was artificially more expensive than it had to be. But still, it's always about a dollar spread between 87 octane and 93 octane.I just paid 2.52 for 93 in Tampa. That is crazy. I have not paid cash for cash in 14 years, or longer. I can get .03-.30 a gallon discount depending on how much the wife spends at the grocery store using my credit card.In fairness, that place (on Long Island) had shut down its self-serve pumps for New Year's Eve -- extra 40 cents a gallon for full serve -- and charged an extra 20 cents a gallon for credit cards (I never carry cash any more). Hey guys. This is the OP. Gee, I though I asked a simple question! LOL.First-time Mustang owner here. The online owner's manual recommends 87 Octane fuel for the EB and V6 engines. The V8 (which should be arriving shortly:clap2is not mentioned in the manual.
So my question is: What octane are you GT owners using?
Seriously; where are these places with 30 cents a gallon difference in regular vs. premium? On Wednesday, I filled up with premium -- $3.499 a gallon; regular at the same station was $2.519. What the hell?
Another thing people tend to forget about is WHERE exactly is that 1% loss at? Is it peak HP or HP across the band? I'm willing to bet that HP/TQ under the curve is less on 87 than 93 in most all driving situations. Knock can occur at about any load on an engine. Is the energy content of 93 lower, yes. Will I possibly get slightly worse mileage, yes. Will I suffer from knock retard as much as on 87, heck no.Does anyone have a link documenting the 1% difference on the '15 Coyote? I ran across these specs for the '11 that indicate the difference in power when using 87 vs. 91. It was 402/412hp (2.5%) and 377/390tq (3%). Still pretty minor, but more than you're likely to gain from a catback or such.
FYI, the full article is a pretty good read.
Jersey gas is notoriously cheaper than New York gas. When gas prices were higher, I used to sometimes drive into Jersey (even though it's forty five minutes each way from my job and tunnell tolls are like nine bucks) to get gas, because they could be more than a buck a gallon less. For Jimmy…
Nearest station to me is 5 miles. Nearest 93 to me is 7.5 miles. Takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to drive there. I have NO idea how long it would take you to drive to this station.
