I get a chuckle out of the terms "Pony Car"...and "Muscle Car" to describe the current generation of Mustangs...

Both of these words are relics from our past...and no longer apply to current automotive products...

"Pony Car" and "Muscle Car" remind me of terms like "Discotheques"...."Leisure Suits"..."Beetle Boots"...and "Nehru Jackets"...

If you consider your 2015 Mustang to be a "Pony Car" or possibly a "Muscle Car"...maybe a set of Cragar SS Wheels would be appropriate!

And Yes...my '68 GT500 KR Fastback was a "Muscle Car"...not a "Pony Car"!

FYI...here's a photo of a classic set of Cragar SS wheels...

I would call the current Challenger a muscle car. Emphasis on power and that is about it!

Mine is not a sports car compared to my real sports car. I have to say it's generally a pony car since that class was invented by the Mustang and this model is trying to live up to that car's reputation with today's materials and technology.

Really though, mine is a Commuter Car, but it wasn't in the poll.
What's your "Real Sports Car"?

Some people have debated with me that their GTIs are sports cars. I'll argue that shit into the ground. There's always room for civil discussion. I'm all ears if someone can change my opinion with something to back theirs up.
Do you really have anything to back yours up?

Mustang GT w/PP IMO does qualify as a "Sports Car". Is an M3 a sports car? I think yes. M3 has 2 doors and 4 seats.
M3 has 4 doors currently (older ones had both 2 or 4 door), M4 has 2 doors... just sayin...

Technically speaking the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro are all Muscle Cars rather than Pony Cars.

Pony Cars (like the original Mustang) were originally built on a compact car chassis (like the Ford Falcon). Muscle cars (like the Ford Torino) were built on a midsized or full-sized chassis.

The roots of the current Camaro chassis are in the Holden Commodore full-sized chassis. The current Challenger (like the current Chrysler 300 and Charger) is based on the Mercedes-Benz W211 E Class mid-sized chassis. And the S550 chassis is ultimately derived from the DEW98 chassis from the mid-sized Jaguar S-Type / Lincoln LS.

I think it can be what you make it (or not).
Talking just the 5.0 liter for the sake of argument.

Off the showroom floor it's mostly a high performance coupe.
Mod it for speed and handling it becomes more of a sports car.
Mod it for the drag strip it becomes more like a muscle car.

The CJ 428 and Boss 429 mustangs were muscle cars to me.
The 69'-70 Boss 302 was more of a sports car.

Some things shouldn't be defined. But with that being said this car
isn't the same car that was introduced 50 years ago.

Why is anyone offended by it not being a sports car is my question?
Good question! One might also ask, why are people offended when it's reffered to as a Sports Car? The GT is loaded with horsepower, Performance Pack handles great, it sounds angry and it's fun to drive. My insurance company sure treats it like a sports car. My premium sky rocketed, haha.
