I remember reading somewhere that the old S197 chassis was called the D2C platform, which it shared with the thunderbird, and the old jaguar S-type. And of course we know the SN95 platform and fox platform.

So far, i haven't found any information as to what platform the S550 rides on. Is it based on another car, or is it its own chassis?

I thought it is still based on the Lincoln LS platform

I believe the answer is that it started with the S197 but evolved into an essentially clean sheet new chassis.

If you watch one of the videos from the NY debut, I forgot which media site but they asked Dave P what the platform name is and he said there's no name, it's brand new. I'm sure there's gotta be an internal designation based on the vehicle class, etc just like D2C stands for but for now we don't seem to have one besides the S550 program name.

It's a similar size to the s197, I'm pretty sure it's based off of that or at least heavily influenced

The S197chassis (DEW lite which later became the D2C) based on a modified Lincoln LS platform (DEW98) but was removed of content and became the DC2 platform the center section of the chassis and the fuel tank design was carried over and the front and rear suspensions were replaced.

Fast forward to the S550 and you have more or less the same center section with upgraded front and rear suspension. Basically the s550 is what the 2005 Mustang could have been chassis wise if the DEW98 platform weren't so expensive and Ford were in a better financial situation in the 2000's.

^^^ This is what I have read in the tech articles. The IRS is NOT what the T-bird and Jag had, but a clean sheet design. And the front suspension is heavily evolved from the S197's struts in order to balance the chassis's handling. So it's pretty unique.
