thank you for your honest reply. To be completely honest-once you add up insurance, gas, and maintenance I am already at a car payment lol. Then you have to add in the car payment. For me, it's not about the budget as much as it is about trying something different. I had a 350z and that was my favorite car of all time. More so than any of the cars I owned. Why? Lighter more nimble and an engine that never stopped revving lol. Im just trying to find opinions on which platform is better. Not save up and get a gt lol. Not sure why everyone always says that.
I love high revving V6 engines. I love the 3.7L platform cause its unique from a customization perspective both power and handling. If you want to better understand the Force Induction options for our rides then read through the FI thread. A few people have ongoing projects as we speak and the thread will only continue to grow.

gas mileage

and due to gas being 4 dollars a gallon here i really dont want a gt for that either
Just going throw this out here for you, I get 17MPG on my car. Several of my GT friends also get right around there too, although some are closer to the 13 mark and one of the supercharged guys gets 7. I might be an outlier with my gas mileage, but just throwing it out there. Don't expect the 24+mpg that a bunch of people in other groups say they get.

lol you say get the eco and then say it sounds like absolute shit. sounds like you didnt enjoy it much then
Coming from a guy who had an eco, it was reliable and easily modded, but I could never get it to sound like I wanted. The turbo and blow off noises sounded great. The exhaust note... not so much. Although the MBRP race catback is one of the better sounding exhaust systems for the eco. The eco loves premium gas or e85. Anything less and the car bogs down. This is an advantage of the V6 and the GT. Both run well on regular 'ole 87 octane.

If you are worried about gas mileage, don't get a Mustang. Look at a GTI maybe. My eco averaged 24 when I had it. My GT averages 19 now.

to be honest-i have been reading all the replies and all the feedback and i really think the v6 would be my best bet. Combines sound with a good engine that has some solid gains attainable. With that said my other choice is hands down a GTI. Such a great car for the money and a simple stage 2 tune and it becomes an actual gt competitor lol. So i guess ill have to deal with the lack of premium features in the v6. Thats really a huge plus for the ecoboost but coming from a gt i feel like the ecoboost needs more refinement from ford. I wish they did a 2.0 engine. The camaro 4 sounds pretty good for a 4banger. I was averaging around 9 mpg in my 18gt lol. I know a v6 or gti would be much better. Also im sharing this car with my girlfriend so she wants some mpgs better than my old gts lol.

I enjoyed it but it didnt sound good. Thats why i traded. Yea the v6 is probably more your style but the eco will be faster with a tune if you care about speed at all.

I chose the v6 for the reliability. I’m having fun taking my time with all my mods. Going to have this car for a very long time. No need to rush through all my mods at once. I’m going for reliability and a fun to drive daily. My exhaust is done. Now I’m going to focus on suspension mods.

Base with a tune, sure. But once you get into upgraded intercooler, downpipe, and big turbo so you don't blow the engine...V6 takes over. Probably same cost roughly either way (higher base price of Eco, slightly cheaper for all the upgrades vs higher cost for V6 turbo kit).

If you no longer have a GT because you couldn't afford it, my advise from a financial standpoint would be not to sink the money needed for forced induction into a V6. Choose the Ecoboost if premium option availability and less expensive power increases are your priority. Choose the V6 for reliability and better sound.

I have a v6 with a mpt tune, and 3.73 gears. It's quick as hell. I drive it hard and I average 23mpg. If I drive it like a grandma I can get around 28. I've got about $1000 into it. I'm currently in the process of adding boost I'm taking my time over the winter.

These statements just don't compute for me. I've literally never seen the average get to 28 unless I reset and am already cruising on the highway. I've got 3.15s and my definition of driving it hard must be different than everyone else's because I'm at 17MPG and that includes goes easy on it sometimes. Then again, could be that my highway driving certainly isn't cruising at 65 at any point in time.

With a v6??? Before I put the 3.73's in I was getting 29-34 mpg and I lock the cruise control in at 80 all day.

I will add that I do mostly highway driving 60 miles round trip to work and I have a manual.

I do a mixture of city and highway and get 22.8 avg. When I had a cold air intake and pedal commander it was around 24 mpg.

To add to this thread about the v6 versus ecoboost, I would ask:

What is your budget?
You can find some crazy deals on 2015-17 v6 mustangs, but you're getting barebones aside from the v6's that come with the upgraded wheels, fog lights and automatic driver seat. I got my base v6 with 4300 miles for right 20k, which is kind of insane when you think about it (300hp, rear wheel drive sports car, irs, limited-slip diff)

What do you care about most?
Creature comforts? Then go with an ecoboost premium. Good sounding exhaust? Go with the v6 and get a catback. Performance out the door without having to modify yourself? Go with the ecoboost performance package.

Long term reliability? Well, I would have to give it to the tried and true v6 engine. Its been out since 2011, and countless people have gone well past the 150k mark. Also, you don't really see people online talk about a blown 3.7 motor (maybe if its forced inducted, but if you keep it stock or tuned it seems incredibly reliable, where as the Ecoboost has shown to blow head gaskets and other components more often than the v6)

For me, it was having a naturally aspirated engine that I could afford at the time. I liked the interior of the Ecoboost premium way more but settled on the base model v6 for this reason alone. Also, its really nice not having to buy 93 gas at the moment (until I decide to tune or go forced induction)

Do you plan on modding heavily?
If so, I may lean toward the Ecoboost, but there is still a lot of potential for the v6 platform. It seems like there are just more aftermarket parts you can spend money on than the v6. Also, if you have the premium, or performance pack, it seems there are more options for those trim levels than the base model (splitters, rear diffusers, etc). Don't get me wrong though, there are still a ton of mods to do with the v6. Suspension alone, you can sink a lot of money into.

Also, it may be worth noting that companies will most likely continue to create mods and have support for the Ecoboost rather than the v6, just due to the fact that Ford is making the Ecoboost and not the v6. From a financial standpoint, more companies will produce new parts for the Ecoboost rather than the v6 because more people will ultimately be in a Ecoboost than v6, and thus generate more money for the company.

For me, I wasn't really on the fence about the Ecoboost. I knew I personally didn't want a turbo, but if I was on the fence, I would test drive extensively between the two.

I think those are about all the points I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps and good luck!
