Anyone do a tune without a CAI? I was wondering how much the intake added to the horsepower, and how much is the tune. Does it make sense to do both?

I'm stock, but will probably add a cat back borla S-type this month. (Mostly for the sound).

It'll improve throttle response, and may give you 15-25hp or so. Make the car a lot smoother, imo.

However I'd just get one of the 'race packs' lethal or whomever sells that's right around $700, and that comes with SCT tuner, custom tune, and intake - so you'll net the most possible gains, ya know?

Bama has a dyno video. where they gained 30WHP peak from just a tune. They added a CAI and picked up another 10whp in the upper RPM range. Take it for what it's worth.

80-90% of the gains you get from a tune and CAI come from the tune. And 80-90% of the gains you get from the CAI can be had with a drop in air filter like a K&N.

Newbie question...

If i buy a tuner with tune, is a dyno required to upload that tune?

Or is it a matter of plugging in the tunner to my car and loading it...?

I gained about 15 peak, but noticed a nice 50 or so hp gain in the 2-4k rpm ranges. Car pulls much better now.

LET 93 dyno tune.

I was thinking the same thing... But wasn't sure how correct I was... I prefer a drop in K&N filter over an entire new CAI system... What are some thoughts on this?

My car picked up about 20whp mid range and 17whp on my bone stock 15 at the time. Just the strategy tune that came with the sct x4 on 93

I personally think the most important part of a tune for the auto transmission guys is tuning the slop out of the shifts. That's what I notice most. How hard the car will shift after the tune is installed.

I'm still at the stock level. I want to change the pump gears before I turn it up.
