I'd be careful letting Ford touch it. First line in diagnostics is re-flash stock tune. Maybe not first but damn close to the top of the flow chart.

Are there any other changes? CAI ect that would need a tune other than the stock one?

You said you have a Lund tune. Do you have a flashing device with Lund's tune on it?
Car has no cats, a JLT CAI, and a ported intake manifold. This CAI needs a tune, so if Ford flashes it back to stock its gonna run like shit i am sure. I use the RTD which data logs, reads codes, and writes tunes to my cars ECU. It has two tunes on it - Lund 93 step down tune, Lund E85 tune.

I would need to tell Ford i want it flashed to stock, then get a stock airbox, all the while admitting that it is tuned. I was planning on playing the card of " i am not sure if its tuned, i bought it from you guys less than 1 year ago". Lol

I can tell you right now with just this response from you - Ford is going to give you a very hard time due to all of the mods - AND the fact that as others have stated before me - the vehicle is tuned. They probably will not even entertain looking at it….

Just being up front with you and transparent…. That is the risk of buying any used S550 that has been modified and IF needing to take it into a Ford Service Center.

It is a liability for the Ford Service Center or Tech to try and flash the PCM back to stock, ESPECIALLY when other mods exist that will also interrupt with OR throw codes on even the stock PCM flash…. They risk the chance of bricking the PCM and/or now their bay is tied up with a vehicle where they are now spending exorbitant time to re-fix after an attempted fix.

You’re not “stuck”, but you’re going to have to weigh your options and figure what is best action to getting the car as close as possible to stock before even taking it to a Ford Service Center (and wasting your and their time).

While i can appreciate your perspective. I am going to disagree. Before my S550, i had a heavily modified GTI that ALWAYS had problems. VW techs never had any issue working on those problems, regardless of the mods. What your saying is that the Ford techs wont be able to properly troubleshoot a potential mechanical trans issue because of a CAI, tune, no cats? I do not buy it. The car has 2 mods that could potentially throw a wrench into their troubleshooting - the tune and the CAI. These are minimal things that i expect a tech to see very frequently working on mustangs. This car is not pushing 1k HP, it is not boosted, does not have a built motor or aftermarket parts that can affect the transmission.

That said, i have reached out to Palm Beach Dyno and explained the situation via Email. I may purchase a tune with them to see if it is truly the Lund tune that is causing this issue. If this issue follows me through 2 different tuning providers, i will probably bring it into Ford. If they give me a hard time like you are claiming, i will bring it to a performance shop that are very familiar with mustangs and performance muscle cars.

That's when you need to remind those Ford techs to tick the "alternate calibration" box. Then they can go abouts with there diagnosis.

Yup, judging from this thread, i obviously will need to be transparant about the fact that it is tuned, which is fine. Theres no way these guys cant troubleshoot a basic bolt on S550 lol

Depends on who tuned the car and the way they lock it.

I think I read your car has NO CATS......if so I think Ford will likely wish you well and send you on your way??

I'm interested in how this plays out and hope you get it resolved somehow.......GOOD LUCK!!

Yeah, i i will keep this thread updated. I am in FL, so no emission laws or anything from my understanding. Doubtful they will care about the no cats, but we will see.

Florida may not require emissions inspections but removing the cats is a federal offense with a potential fine of up to $2500. Florida also has laws against removing the cats. What the penalties are i don't know.
Whether any given Ford dealer will care, I cannot say.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that they use it as an excuse though.

Interesting, i did not know. I wasnt even the one who removed the cats, the previous owner did. Guess we will see how it plays out though. Thanks for the info.

Following and Curious. Seems to me if I was a Ford tech to determine if it's a Mechanical or software issue I would want to flash it back to stock.
Guess the question is what does that do to your tune?

The ECM would just be reflashed with the stock tune and my tune would be gone. Wont matter though because i can just rewrite over their tune with my tune.

I purchased a new tune from PBD. As soon as i loaded the tune on, i not longer had any weird transmission problems lol. It was related to the tune.
