I hope the local, senior mech inspires confidence , John as I'd much rather have her local and I imagine you would as well. Even if the worst case materializes and they have to replace the transmission, I just can't see how that would be any major mechanical difficulty. Probably easier than a clutch change in a manual as long as you have a 2-post and tranny jack.

Honestly, I’m still very torn on this issue. The car isn’t going in till Friday. I’m going to take it to one of two dealerships.

I have a small connection to a minatory owner of a Ford dealer just outside of Tulsa. Both owners race cars and I have a huge collection of various Ford Performance vehicles. They have a senior master mechanic that I have not yet met, who has been there for 29 years. He is also supposedly an expert in transmissions. I’m gonna meet him in person on Friday. If he inspires confidence, I will leave the car with him.

My alternative is to take the car back to the dealer I purchased it from (Little Rock). Their senior master mechanic is an enthusiast. And due to my crazy PDI, I have a relationship with him. But that means the car will be 4+ hours away and out of my control.

I tracked down the trailer yesterday and purchased it. I will be picking it up tomorrow. That gives me a lot of flexibility to move the car wherever is best.

Where in Oklahoma are you? I would be happy to meet up sometime.
I am in Bartlesville. Well sounds like you have good options dealer wise so that is a big plus and really to me this is a question that can be answered without seeing the car. Either it can damage the tranny or not. And if they don't know or can't tell that defaults to replacing.

I'll bet Tremec figures out a way to allow TWO bolts on that line connection. One seems just plain foolish although I realize there were physical constraints. A better design could fix that.

SOOOOOoooo, my fellow enthusiasts with a lot more knowledge than I...how would you go about putting thread locker on that one bolt? I'm gonna guess that with the engine off, that line would not be pressurized, if it ever is, but is it above the level of the fluid? I'd REALLY like to avoid a shower in gear grease. :-)

the hose would only really come loose if the system is pressurized. Have someone put their finger on the flange if you're worried and remove the bolt, inspect the threads carefully to make sure they're not already torn out and then add a drop or two of blue and re-secure. What is the diameter of the fastener? I'm eye-balling it at M8x1.25

If the threads look a little sketchy run a tap with just finger pressure. You can also use a pick and pull on a thread and see if it holds or just crumbles off.

Kent, I would think that just like every other O ring fitting on the car, you would remove the fastener and then have to supply some force to remove the fitting from the transmission. If the line is not pressurized, I dont think it would come flying off.

Now here is why I would not do that myself. If you remove the bolt and apply thread locker to it, you have done something that could be looked at if that ever failed. I think the way that I am going handle this is to do an inspection and verify the torque. If everything is ok, then I'll leave it alone. When the car goes in for the brake recall, I might address it at that time with the tech. I would approach it in one of two ways, install a witness mark so that I can periodically make sure its not moving, OR have the bolt removed to verify thread locker is applied.

first figure out diamter and thread pitch. It's probably a grade 8. For something like this 'firm hand tight' should be PLENTY esp. with loktite. Treat it like a oil pan drain plug or diff cover drain.

$100,000+ car and this, what gives, Anymore these days when you spend that kind of money you need to hire an independent mechanic to inspect every inch the car before you take delivery geez...

That's kinda the direction I was leaning, Matt and absent a torque spec, I plan to proceed exactly as you described. My wag is 15-20ftlb which is pretty much "hand tight" I expect.
From the 2020 Mustang Service Manual

Install the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes and the bolts.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

Here's a funny, Earl. I went out a short while ago to put the car on the lift to check those bolts and some other tasks only to discover that the battery was dead. Yep, left the ACC on like a dummy yesterday while testing out Surround. :-)

So, she's charging and I'll check 'em tamarra.
