Had a little fun in my ‘21 Mach 1 chasing a ‘22 Porsche 911 GT3 at NOLA Motorsports last week. He towed me to my best few laps of the day. There were over 50 cars at the open track day - I think the breakdown was 21 in Novice, 24 in Intermediate, and 6 in Advanced (some serious cars in that group). I ran Intermediate, and I’d say me and the GT3 were in the top 3 or 4 in that group. He was a tad faster than me, but my little pony car held its own.

On another note, some may remember me posting my Cup 2 tires after around 2,500 miles and 1 track day last year….

After that track day, I replaced the Cups with Pilot Sport 4S tires. Here’s a pic after around 15,000 miles and 2 track days…

The first track day on the 4S tires was a month after the Cup 2 tires track day. I ran the same lap times as I did on the Cups. Granted, I usually improve by a second or two each track day, so there may have been a little drop off but nothing too significant (and the 4S tires are sooooo much better on the street and in the rain). I then went a year between track days on the 4S tires, and after putting 15,000 miles on them, my best lap time was a 2:04.42 compared to a 2:03.00 when the tires were new. Also, I don’t do camber adjustments or anything else. I run it exactly like I do every other day aside from lowering the air pressure in the tires.

Loved the video, made me wish mine wasn't in hibernation! Healthy growl and all. Watched your NOLA vid as well, that straight a way is fun to watch!

Pretty impressive how well the PS4 hold up with such a heavy car. That video makes me anxious to get my Mach on the track soon. (If I can figure out how to fit in it with a helmet.)

Thanks for sharing, fun video to watch.

The PS4s does it all. Well.
I was out in heavy rain with lots of standing water yesterday driving to Monterey and Zero hydroplaning, very happy with how they handled the lousy weather. The width of them don't help, yet they seem to shed water very well. If I was going to drive in those conditions a lot, I'd probably go out and get a set of non-HP sized (narrower) wheels and tires though.

I have heard that the Cup2's are super overkill for street driving - and always throwing pebbles. Nice to see the PS4s can handle street and track. Anyone have first hand impressions on how the SuperSports fit in there? I know they are an older design.

I’m more worried about the high seating position and hitting my head on the roof.

Agreed, I’ve gotta find a way over winter to lower the seat in this thing…

Best tire post YET :champagne:

Just curious, what camera mount did you use for recording your run? And what software overlays the speed and direction? Thanks!

Great thread, when I was at Track Attack the cars were on PS4s. A very skilled track driver (the instructors) could get a hell of a lot of performance out of the car on that rubber. They said they don't use the CUP2s because of how the traction falls off without a nice warning, especially in the rain.

Too true. The Ford Performance School guys said the same thing about the Cup 2's losing grip without warning. But also that they don't use Cup 2's if it's raining.

I’m using this windshield mount I bought from Amazon…

For the speedometer and track map overlays, I do them in the GoPro Quik app. They are available in the “stickers” editing function of the app.

Thank you! It looked like a solid setup. It was interesting to see the camera pan a bit from side to side while you were doing your lap.
