My 2017 GT w/PP needs a new passenger rear TPMS sensor. The programmer/remote isn't able to pick it up but does the others just fine.

Wasn't with a Mustang but saw a video where a guy used a small section of 2x4 on either side of the valve to separate the tire from the rim without taking the tire off the rim. Then he was able to get the old TPMS/valve stem out and put the new one in.

My concern is getting the car to recognize the new sensor because I think the serial number needs to be programmed into the car.

Has anyone done this? Hows it done? Anything to watch out for?

Thanks!!

Ford sensors are self learning and do NOT need to be programmed. Just went through this when I bought new wheels/tires. Sensors synced right up.

So they just drop in and the remote and car automatically accept them?

They re-learned the sensors on my last week. I am pretty sure there is a simple process to relearn all sensors, and I am just too lazy to google it.

Didn't your 1st post say you have the programmer?
If I recall all you do is put the car in a Learning mode then start at the drivers side front and go clockwise to each wheel with the tool. I just don't remember how to get it in learn mode. But I know it's online because I had to look it up the last time I had tpms sensors replaced.
Also, if you have a big box membership their auto centers are very reasonable on tpms replacement. I used Costco last time and it wasn't worth my time and effort to diy them over the Costco price.

Do you have a link to the video?

I do have the programmer (gray fob with green button). Just wasn't sure if anything else was needed or if there was anything proprietary that a Ford dealer needed to do.

Here’s the relearn procedure with the fob. Super easy

Yes I had seen that. But didnt know if that was the same for introducing totally new sensors vs. ones already being used.

Exactly the same. My winter tires have non-OEM sensors (same frequency so they talk to the car like OEM sensors would) and it works every time I change my wheels out each fall. Been doing it for 5 years now
