I was going to wait until the spring to buy tires but this happened. Not even sure how I did it, which is mildly disturbing. I’m assuming it was a very low curb or else I’d have a lot of wheel damage

I am not fast. My current ECS have 7 days on them and look like this. The W is still intact.

Here is the list of tires I am considering. Current wheels are Apex SM-10 in 19x10. I’m not interested in wider wheels anytime soon. I’m aware that stretch is better than squeeze for the track, but I have concerns about the look and smaller diameter of a 275/35R19 vs 285/35R19.

285/35R19Yokohama AD09
275/35R19Falken RT660+
285/35R19Goodyear Eagle F1 SC3
285/35R19Potenza RE-71RS
275/35R19Kumho V730
285/35R19Continental ECS 02
295/35R19Continental ECF

I think what my question boils down to is which option do I go with. Leaning towards the AD09.
  1. AD09 285/35R19
  2. RT660+ 275/35R19
  3. ECS02 285/35R19
I still want to be able to safely drive in the wet and I will never do more than 6 track days per year.

Am I going to toast ECS02s as I gain more experience, so now is definitely the time to step up?

Are any of the 275/35s so much better than the AD09 that they are worth considering?

Are you talking rainy, downpour type wet or just damp pavement? The Yoko’s and Falken’s will be ok on damp pavement but won’t do so well in more rainy conditions. The Conti’s would be your best bet in those conditions. For just a handful of track days per year, I’d personally go with the Conti’s. As you get faster, maybe consider a second set of wheels and go with either the Yoko’s or Falken’s as a dedicated track tire.

Just my $0.02, I’m sure others will have some thoughts as well

Just for clarity, not looking to do track days in the wet just drive safely on the street and it not feel like an ice rink.

Dude me and you are going through the same shit lol I literally logged on about ready to make the exact same topic😂

I've been geeking out over tires for days.

I got 19x8.5 front and 20x10 rear. (F: 255/40/19 and R: 305/35/20) I actually want to bring the tire size down slightly (F: 245/40/19 R: 285/30/20) This will make them both the same Diameter roughly.

ive brought my search down to

-Continental dws 06 *all season

-General Gmax-RS *Summer tire

Not looking at Michelin's since I'm not convinced the SC all seasons are significantly better than the DWS to justify the cost.

The DWS sounds like a good tire all around. But has a TW rating above 500. And that seems like it's a bit to hard for good grip from a dig...but I dunno.

The RS has good reviews for dry and rain as a Summer tire. And has a TW rating of 320. But total crap in cold/winter.

Of the options you listed, I would go with the ECF's or the V730's for track use and street compliance. Certainly not the fastest tires but they will last a good while, very consistent and good to learn on, and you could put plenty of street miles on them as well.

For contrast, the RE71RS is the fastest tire of that bunch and I would say it would be a waste of money to put any street miles on them.

Are they that much better than the AD09 or do you just not have experience with that tire yet?

I know the ECF is the best wet 200tw but 295 on a 10” wide def counts as a squeeze.

I don't have any experience with the AD09 nor know anyone who has used them. They could be fine as well but I just don't have any info on them.

Oh, I wasn't looking at the sizes, just the tire itself. Does the ECF not come in a smaller size?

ECF is either 265 or 295. If it was 275 I’d likely lean that way.

That's unfortunate. Well I guess that tire is off the list then.

Ok, considering sizes as well, I would vote for AD09 or V730.

ECF S02 in 275/40 on 9.5" are my daily and wet track tires. And I really like them for both uses.

I don't have any experience with them, but I've been wanting to try the Eagle F1s. Do it and report back!

Those are faster than ECF's but more of a time attack tire. They get over heated and become greasy after a few hard laps as opposed to the endurance nature of the ECF's or similar where you can push lap after lap. Trading longevity for more grip.

The regular SC3 is like that? Ugh. I had some hope that it was longer lasting since the R exists. The SC3R must be a hero tire then.

Yes, regular SC3. Great tire to be fair but it sort of falls in that auto-x category...fast for a few laps and then needs to cool down.

The 3R is a true race tire. Needs lots of heat to warm up, crazy fast once warm, can push lap after lap with no degradation BUT they heat cycle out and become hard after 3-4 heat cycles. You essentially get one weekend out of them before they are useless.

Ok so it sounds like the SC3 would be good for one season with a slow to moderate pace. I was hoping to get 10-12 days from this set but that might be optimistic.
