In NY, any extra tint applied will make it illegal and technically wouldn't pass NYS inspection. I see tons of people running dark tint with NY license plates and wondering if they just remove and reapply? I went ahead and did 35%. More that the money getting it removed and reapplied is the inconvenience of time. There is a bill being debated to bring legal limit to 50%. Not great, but progress i guess.

I went Ceramic 65% looks factory makes a huge difference controlling cabin temp or when sun low and top open. Visibility is perfect. Window color looks like high end green similar to Ray-Ban lenses.

Cop was giving me ticket for cracked glass (got new windshield) instead of reckless, speeding and stunting related to a traffic move to avoid brain dead Karen's and he did not notice at all.

I’m getting my windows tinted soon, and I’m debating between 20% and 35%. 35 looks nice, but 20 looks better aesthetically to me.

my only hesitation with 20% is seeing at night (and parallel street parking, or in parking garages). i do have good vision, but has anyone struggled with seeing at night? i don’t often drive rural country roads because i live in a major metropolitan area.

i won’t be doing the windshield, but what is the rear window tinted to from factory? if i get 20% on the sides and rear would that be too dark to see out of, considering i have an auto dimming mirror? should i do 20 on the sides and 35 on the rear? and is looking out the back window a challenge with the extra 20% tint? i’ve never gotten a car tinted before.
I have zero issues seeing out of my 20. That’s what I would do for sure.

I can say for sure: driving at night with 5-10% tint on the windshield and stock headlights is damn uncomfortable — you’ll need a rebuild with good bi-LED projectors.
15-20% is very comfortable!

This only applies to side windows, front window, and winglet windows , also for a 4 dr rear passenger windows. Around where I live most independent shops don't care. Most of cops let it slide, unless your being an ass or if the cops are older.

I bought my car used with what looks like 20% on the rear panels. I did the driver side and pass with 35% and looks fine in my opinion. Obviously not as nice all the way around but at my age and skin tone, I can’t afford to be pulled over. When I was younger I’d opt for looks, now I opt for function. The sun praying on your face for 2 hour commutes is no fun.

I have 20% ceramic on the side windows and back. On the windshield I went with 43% ceramic on the whole windshield with a 5% tint strip on top of the 43%. No problems driving at night. It's actually better the obscene aftermarket led lights are not as blinding anymore. With the addition of tint strip it almost looks like rest of windshield is not tinted.

20 all day :) I have always done 20. Looks the best IMHO, and I can see pretty good with my old tired eyes. I made the mistake of doing 5% on my 22 GT and it was too dark :) But, 35 does look pretty good, if you are going to have legality issues...

20% tint on mine, no tint on windshield..

Is that 20 on the windshield too? I'm getting mine retinted rn (same percent as before just warranty). 5% all around 20% windshield. Debating 15% windshield later on by stacking percents

I’ll be the outlier and say whatever is legal in your area! once you are on the radar of the local po-po, it’s game over, he will pull you over every dam time…ask me how I know, and why my tint is now legal šŸ˜‚
Not an option in places for instance in PA no tint at all is legal in any window and even a sun strip is questionable. You might aswell go dark if you tint it since any film at all will both fail inspection and get you pulled over. They don't even measure it either, 100% clear tint is the same ticket as 5%. All they need to see is that there is a film on there and you just spent 200

understood…interestingly I had a neighbor up in Washington, had a kid or wife (can’t recall which) who had a light sensitivity issue. They had a doctors note and he ran DARK tint on all his cars šŸ˜Ž

I tried asking my eye doctor for a note but he didn’t want to do it as I didn’t have a medical issue and light sensitivity wasn’t enough of an excuse. I’ve been running with 35 on two fronts and 20 on the rear with no hassle. I will go to one shop for inspection and see if they say anything. If I have to remove and re apply, so be it. NYS should just levy yet another fee for window tint like vanity plates.

I'm 15% all the way around except 30% on the windshield. I have no issues with visibility.
